I'm looking at a Gold Crown V from an individual, but it's got a ball return. Any reason to steer clear? - mechanical problems down the road, or marking balls or such?

You can always take the ball return off and just install drop pockets.
If you get it and don't want the ball return system I can make a video for you on how to remove it and replace the pockets. All you need is a screw driver to remove the tracks and Allan key to remove the pockets. You say that like I would know how to do that, or ever where to get replacement pockets, or as if it would not cost $$ even if I knew these things.Besides, I don't work on pool tables, or pretty much on anything.
Anyway - please consider the OP - not asking if people like them or if I can get rid of them - just asking if they have any problems I should be aware of.
Apparently the only issue is that they do drop balls on occasion.
