APA to increase skill levels

10 in 9 ball, 8 in 8 ball. Have you heard this? When will it begin? Have field tested? Will the 23 rule increase also?
Plenty of questions.
Thanks CMB

Where are the league owners??? Please tell us about this change.

after reading this i txt my lo.

he asked where i heard this. told him on az.

he said he has not heard any thing about it.

he came on and read it himself then txt me back and said its not happening.

i guess he is a lurker and not a member afaik. we have discussed threads on here about apa a few times.

Great ! I won't have to change my Nick name, "6 for life". You guys had me worried

That is quite the exaggeration. 7's easily finish in a half hour even with a couple of games of clutter and safeties. Hell as a 6 my games against other 6's or even 5's rarely last that long. My longer games are still against 2's and 3's as they just keep mucking things up. :)

2 7's playing have a race 5/5. A 7 and a 6 it is a race of 5/4. IF they introduced a SL8, which I highly doubt they will anytime soon, they can easily make that race 5/4 for a 8vs7 and 6/4 for a 8vs6.

Most of my matches take about 1/2 hour or 40 min. However sometimes they just don't go easy. I played a former 8 ball singles champ in vegas. Our match consistent of *several* 20 plus inning racks. No one was willing to risk selling out. That match went hill hi and took nearly 2 hours. So trust me, I'm not exaggerating. It happens. I've seen many many matches that I wasn't playing in take 1.5 hours or more.

Sounds like somebody wasn't drinking enough. Hopefully that wasn't on a Valley, sounds brutal.

There is no way, K. Dude, you play S L O W. The only time you get done that fast is if you beat someone 5-0 (which you are fully capable of).

lol I tell a few of my buddies they have the 7 for life. I was trying to motivate them to get better but it doesn't seem to work as I still drill them and I play like once every 2-3 months now.

I think I am going to start timing our matches just for the heck of it.
We finished at 10:30 last nite. Started at 7'30

My match went. 20 innings with me playing 5 safes and my opponent played 3

I won 4-1 in a 4-4 race.

I enjoy playing Apa 9 ball but they will never convince me keeping the cap so low isn't a business decision to split teams up and force you to recruit lol 23 in 8 ball and 9 ball makes no sense since there's a 2 number difference in handy caps

The 9 ball cap should be 25, if it was I might actually put a team together with people I actually like hanging around

Haha. You're probably right. And yes, Valleys! It was a $1000 difference in prize money...maybe that had something to do with it. I don't know.

I don't know which Eric this is. But yes I play pretty slow. I have had matches take under 20 minutes. And yes, it's when the balls open up nice, and I'm running out. In my APA area, don't forget that most times I'm playing people that go for a run every time and sell out seemingly every chance they get. A much stronger and smarter opponent, like the one I played in the Nationals in Vegas, is not going to do that.

The LO in Colorado Springs CO hadn't heard anything of this. Doesn't mean it can't happen but if some lo's haven't even heard about it I'd guess it's a ways from happening, if it even does.

Right on man. Most the valleys were playing on our slow with dirty balls and no matter how you break its a cluster mess. The best move is to bide your time and let them sell out making balls as the ultimately always seem to do. It's long but it's how you win in those conditions.

i played my scotch doubles league last night and forgot to time our matches but we started at 7,30 and were done at 10.30.

we play 2...8 ball singles....2 ...9 ball singles ...1...8 ball doubles and 1...9 ball doubles for a total of 6 matches and was done in 3 hours.

our team had an amazing night.

8 ball singles....we won 4-1
8 ball singles ...we won 4-1
8 ball doubles.. we won 5-0

9 ball singles..we won 13-7
9 ball singles..we won 13-7
9 ball doubles..we won 14-6

We play on 9-footers, and we are usually done between 10:30-11, starting at 7. Of course, we start a second table at 9...

Funny thing.... The first match ALWAYS takes an hour. Always. Between 6's and 7's, between 5's, between 3's. Damndest thing. I noticed it a year or so ago. Dunno why.

your players are probably like me.....takes a few racks to get in stroke.:embarrassed2:

70% of the time i miss my 1st shot of the match....don't matter how easy it is.:embarrassed2:

our sunday night division plays in a pool hall with more teams than 7 footers available so we all rotate playing on the 9 footers. when all the teams playing on the 7 footers are leaving the teams playing on the 9's are usually in the middle of their 4th match and still have a 5th one to go.

pool is a funny game. my g/f who is arguably the worse 3 in our league has 2 9 ball break and runs on the 9 footers. i am a 5 and have never accomplished that once.

i have sevaral break and runs in both 8 and 9 ball on the 7 footers and she has never had one. simply puzzling to me.

You played my team in Vegas this past August. My guy Chuck, who was playing you, had to eventually get a ref to put you on the clock because yiu were averaging over a minute for simple shots and around 2.5 minuters per complicated shots.

Hey, if anything, just giving you a lil bit of a hard time, lol. You play well and you guys seem like good guys. Hope you finished well.

You might be onto something, bug we have MANY players in our division that shoot too quickly. They simply are too impatient, and it gets them in the end all too often. Even matches with them seem to take an hour as well, if its first. Funny game...

I agree, I play tap and it seems to be the same no matter who plays

Our LO is on the APA board and says there were talks of it but it's a 3 year plan. Basically If your a super 7 you will need to win an extra game against a regular 7

I would not argue with that. Average game should be 8-10mins long with 40-60min a match with an 8 ball team match taking 4 hours and 9 taking 3 hours. If I am not mistaken the home office is going to start requiring START and END times marked on score sheets so they get better handle on the length of matches.

We as players should also start enforcing the time rules: 20 sec per shot, 45 sec special shooting situation. 2 minutes to put up player and 1 minute coaches. Of course these are "soft" rules as there is no penalty for not abiding by them. Just mark the sheet with comments and let the league deal with the slow players. In tournaments, ask them to be put on a clock and they will start handing out BIH for violations. I have done it twice and it certainly gets the slow player to start picking up their pace.
