Racking cloth?

What the heck is a racking cloth?

I think its a cloth you put under the triangle, then put all the balls inside the triangle, then roll the "triangle + balls + cloth" to the foot spot. Then you pull out the cloth like a magician pulls out the tablecloth on that trick, and then you tighten up the balls, and remove the triangle.

Its purpose is to save wear on the cloth on the table from the sliding of the balls and triangle when racking.

I'm not 100% on the above, maybe 80%.
 
As long as people don't lock the balls in place and slide the rack, it will not wear out the cloth. When they hold them rigid with their hands and slide them back and forth, you wear it out much faster.

Yes, you're right. Better way to save cloth...stop playing 9 ball. Simonis would try and fight that bigtime. Johnnyt
