How long to lust over a cue....

I think I may be the most patient collector of cues. Sure I have bought and sold some quickly, but several of my "keepers" took years to finally get. I am not talking about the years we are on a waiting list for a cuemaker. I am talking about discussing buying a cue and either the buyer is not ready to sell, or you cant work out a deal to make it happen, but eventually you work it out and get the cue.

My favorite cue, my Schick took about 2 years. The Hoppe Gus was well over a year.

I think I am about 2 years of waiting on a cue that the owner knows I would like to have. Basically, when he is ready to sell, I am ready to buy, period.

Am I alone on this one?

i am not much of a collector so i have never lusted over a cue.

i always buy cues that are for sale...if the price is right. if the price is not right i move on and forget about it.

only once have i came across a cue i liked enough....a richard black ...to ask the owner if he would sell it..he said it was not for sale so i never asked again even though i see him every week at league. as a matter of fact i sold him a custom cue this year that i had.
 
Absolutely. Some deals take a little "courting" before the exchanging of the "rings". Many like myself like to choose the one we "propose" to. Some deals are ALL about the relationship...

Cues, cars, gadgets, women.....
personally, I lust over it until I'm satisfied, .....

I have lusted after a few of those a time or two
 
I have lusted over a Lambros (any Lambros with his unique ultra joint) for as long as I can remember, but I know that his prices have gone up so much over the years, that I will never be able to afford one. I had a chance to get a fancy sneaky directly from Lambros back in the 90's for 250, and never went through with it (was too broke I think). Anyways, not long after that when i had the cash to order, I called him back, and he directed me to a dealer that was selling them for $500. Anyways, I think I have been lusting over a Lambros ever since. By the way, you do not have to be a collector to lust over a cue.

I always heard such great things about Schick Cues. A friend of mine said that he seen a Schick sneaky Pete years ago (this was in the early 2000's I think), and he told me he really wanted it, but the dealers price on it was $1200. I think it was at the music city open one year, and he seen a few on a dealers table. I think he told me one of them was like 1500. I imagine they must be amazing player Cues.

Schick, is the best of all time, IMO.
 
Being a collector myself, I'm in a constant lust for cues. No matter how many I get it want more and hate waiting. Could be 1 day and I'm all fidgetity. Then again people say I'm insane & need anot intervention about my cue buying & collecting.

I'm like geez, at least you know I'm not buying drugs & alcohol!

Friend of mine lusted 15 years over a Cobra. Paid 5X what he wanted and has been very happy since buying.

I wholeheartedly agree. If I had more cheese I would be in trouble. Constantly working things in my mind and spinning my wheels about cues. If I sold my...and my.... and I bought a ..... then a >>>>> Constantly rotating smaller cues. Never going to have a large it goes on and on.

You all may think it pedestrian of me, but I luster over a Predator for several years before I actually got the one I had been looking for, yes, a Predator. The LE 2. So I finally got one. Don't really care for it. It's pretty and all, but it ain't the holy grail I was sure it would be.
Careful what you lust over, may not be what you expected
 
When I was in college in the mid 80's, I collected cue catalogs from all the cue makers that I could find and that advertised in Billiards Digest. Among those cue makers was Richard Black. Which at the time his catalog consisted of a 4x6 color photo. And in that photo was the last cue of what is now his Silver Crown cue model. The price back then in 1985 was around like 1500 dollars. Totally out of my budget then. But that cue become my holy grail of a desired cue. And 30 years later it still is the one cue that I desire the most. I guess its my Rosebud. I would be happy to have any Richard Black at this point, but the Silver Crown is what I desire the most. So if there is a cue that I lust after it is that cue model.
 
Do you recall when Fast Eddie gives Vincent the cue to play with.......Remember how excited Vincent became after holding the cue Eddie hands him......does any of your cues do that to you? Is there one you'd love to have but haven't been able to seal the deal yet?

There's a cue overseas right now and my last shot at it was if the seller came to the Mosconi Cup and I'd meet him at the Cup and buy the cue. We negotiated the price long ago bu getting that cue into the states has been more than a chore........and just as I dreaded, the seller couldn't attend the Mosconi Cup.

Anticipating that might be the outcome, last summer I engaged a cue-maker to make me the same design but with veneer colors I selected. I know it's never going to be the original cue but since the cue-maker resides in California, he won't be making any more designs like that one with the CA ivory ban only several months away. But the upside is my cue-maker makes cues that hit & feel wonderful and it's costing me 1/2 what the other cue would have run me.......so all in all, no complaints.
 
All that I can afford.

Got a lot on my wish list but an honest "Happy Birthday" is what I can afford.

I completely agree. Mine was found while looking for a pool table. I bought both. I liked playing with it immediately and still appreciate it as much as 18 years ago. Best money I ever spent.
