I believe that One Pocket is a perfect metaphor for life. You begin by developing the skills necessary to become successful, and then.....
Perhaps some of you might take it from there. :)

One pocket is like being a warden.....
...you keep putting people in jail....
....but sometimes they escape.

... and then you do not employ those 'perfected' skills until you absolutely must for fear that your arm has fallen asleep or developed leprosy from such a long time period of non-use.

and then.....

You bunt balls around your entire life, hoping for something exciting to happen. It usually doesnt, and when it does, most other people outside of your narrow group of friends would not find it remotely exciting.

Then after what sometimes feels like years of only making a ball once in a blue moon, the game is finally over. At that point, cremation and burial are the two most popular options...... :grin-square:

You get married, have a kid and forget how to play the game. The game becomes harder, action gets more tiring. You find yourself questioning the meaning of One Pocket. Next thing you know you pull of something amazing and have a few 8 n outs. Then One Pocket comes back and slaps you in the face because you didn't take care of your fundamentals.

When you first start playing its $5 a game and next thing you know its $100 a game. The money complicates the game. Is the money an illusion? Maybe just a distraction away from the finer points of One Pocket?

Yes except the last part
One pocket never ends while life ends

I just copied your avatar pic to my Portraits of Beauty thread but the image is very small.

Perhaps a larger version is at hand if you are so inclined... or not.

Absolutely. Especially for a man. 1 hole. Spend nine months waiting to get out and the rest of our lives trying to get back in. Oops.... wrong 1hole story.

Ha! That's even funny for us folks that enjoy one pocket.

... you are continually faced with obstacles and have to make decisions so that you can move forward.

To me 9 ball is more like life.

Going for the quick win looks appealing when you first start to play the game but you soon learn that it leads to bad results most of the time. Its better to plan your route, stay in line, and make your shots. Sometimes you have to play safe but its a fast paced game that you are looking to keep control of at all times but the game can be unpredictable.

It also helps if you get a big break.

Thats nine ball.
