You discover that your body is too old to apply the knowledge that your brain still remembers.
Kinda like some other stuff in life.
Kinda like some other stuff in life.
The break is like birth. The beginning. The better the break, the better the opportunities for us to do well.
From the break we progress into the heart of the game. Moving balls to our advantage. Learning what works, and what doesn't. Taking advantage of what life (the game) has to offer. Being in the right place at the right time. We learn survival skills by putting whitey in the best possible positions. We score.
The end game is the culmination of all our efforts that have gone on before. We have yet to win or lose, but that end is near and very much in sight. All our talents are necessary for one last shot. One last try at validating our existence. Unless we are given a reprieve from the heavens an open shot, at this point, is not possible.
We rise above ourselves and strike the cue ball one last time with all the finesse and expertise our wisdom, and talent can provide us. We strike it with just enough force to send the object ball into one, or more, of the cushions, and at the correct speed and angle to make the shot.
It is at this moment that our life's work is realized. When that last ball drops slowly, and with great satisfaction, into our pocket, we have won.
You get married, have a kid and forget how to play the game. The game becomes harder, action gets more tiring. You find yourself questioning the meaning of One Pocket. Next thing you know you pull of something amazing and have a few 8 n outs. Then One Pocket comes back and slaps you in the face because you didn't take care of your fundamentals.
When you first start playing its $5 a game and next thing you know its $100 a game. The money complicates the game. Is the money an illusion? Maybe just a distraction away from the finer points of One Pocket?
I believe that One Pocket is a perfect metaphor for life. You begin by developing the skills necessary to become successful, and then.....

Perhaps some of you might take it from there.![]()
One pocket has some unique situations.
Scenario....pool hall is on the second floor.
A ball is locked in the jaws...game ball for both players.
The guy shooting is almost froze on the same long rail...'bout half a diamond from the
other end.
He says " Clear the rail!".....jacks up, makes the ball and jumps off the table.
As the cue ball is airborne, a customer comes up the back stairs and opens the door...
...the cue ball goes down the stairs, pickin' up speed....
....puts a bunch of cracks in the fire-proof glass of the bottom door.
Somebody says "Good shot!"
The room owner agrees....he's betting on the game.
A snooker player (who can't even spell one pocket) says" Are you guys crazy?"
The shooter says "I'm not crazy, and when they let me out, thet gave me the papers that
prove it."
Everybody starts laughing.....then they settle down...the other player has ball-in-hand...
...in the kitchen, of course.
Is he gonna pussy out and park whitey by his opponent's pocket...or is he gonna shoot
the draw shot and go for his hole?
What other game resembles a chess match and a street brawl?
