A few questions from a newbie.

I'm fairly new to cue work but I do have experience in machine work. I started doing cue tips about 2 months ago and I have recently started doing ferrule replacement. The first few ferrules that I replaced were non threaded tenons and I used lock-tite super glue. Worked great.

I now have a Meucci shaft that I'm replacing the ferrule on. It is a threaded tenon and I bought a ferrule that is made/threaded for a Meucci. It fits tight on the shaft and looks good, but I'm not sure what to glue it with. It looks like it was originally glued with a wood glue. I'm thinking a Gorilla wood glue, but should I use expanding or not? What would you experienced guys use?

Next question. What glue do you use for phenolic tips? I just bought some and I'm going to practice installing them this week.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

I have never liked the idea of using super glue for any kind of ferrule. I would suggest using five minute epoxy for both slip on and thread on ferrule jobs. Just be sure to cut some grooves in the non threaded tenons to hold some glue.

Thanks!! I will try some 5 minute epoxy. Cueman, thank you for the groove information. I will remember that.

One more thing. Will 5 minute epoxy stain the ferrule?

Shouldn't, 5-min epoxy is clear. Myself, when installing ferrules on any shaft I place a very small amount of white glue on a tooth pic and use that to mix and install the glue with. I get the paint at Walmart in the art supply dept. The bottles are about 2 ounce and cost less than a dollar. If you close the lid on the paint it won't dry out and will last a long time.

Great tip on mixing in the paint Dick. When I first started, glue lines gave me fits.

Use 5 min epoxy for all ferrules. Mix up the 2 parts and then get a new mixing stick. Dip the mixing stick in a bottle of white india ink.... you only need a drop of ink. Mix it into the epoxy and glue on the ferrule with it..............

no glue ring
