Geez, people. I can't stand streams where the announcers call him Efrem. Come on! Only the greatest all around player of our era!

Guy I knew who opened a room, now closed, always referred to him as Efrem. Told him over and over it was Efren, made no difference.

Yes, and Leupold is pronounced Loo-pold, NOT Leo-pold.
It would be Leo-pold if it was spelled Leopold.
But there's an U not an O as the third letter.
If in doubt call their 800 number they say Loo-pold
about 100 times while you're navigating their phone system.

Just thought I'd add that.

Thanks fellas.

What? Huh? Lol!!

Its probably because the only person with a name even close to "Efren"..Was "Efram" Zimbalist Jr., the well known hollywood actor!..He was famous long before Efren came along! :sorry:-->http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/efrem-zimbalist-jr-dead-star-700983

Ahem...it's not EfrAm Zimbalist....it's EfrEm...must be a pool player thing.

The variation that bothers me is when they call or spell EfERn....

But I forgot about Efrem Zimbalist, Dick....a good explanation that makes it forgivable.

I must live a sheltered life. Never heard of Leupold.

I hear ya, but it's a good bet you pronounce it incorrectly, too.

A Spanish name that has an F, but in the Philippines? Yeah, you're not close either.

Freddie <~~~ not close, either

And it's not RAY YAAZZZ either.
It's REY YES in pronunciation.
Slow and no emphasis in either syllable.
In Filipino, only the last syllable can be emphasized but it has to end in a vowel.

Yeah, probably pronounced Epren there as they don't have a native 'f' sound and supplant a p instead. e.g. Trappic, which you'll hear often in Manila.

Anyways, most Filipinos I met only knew him as Bata.

That said, Mike Sigel seemed a bit more moronic to me each time he said Efrem during the IPT broadcast.

Exactly! Sigel sounded so stupid. Also, the recent match between Bata and Earl at Steinway, the British bloke (who invented the Tower Bridge) next to Alvin repeatedly mispronounced it.

Would/does that make Francisco ....Prancisco?

Or is there a different pronunciation convention that applies?

thanks

Is it such a big deal that it is worth calling a champion of our sport stupid? Mute your volume if you can't take it.
