Get rid of jump cues for Mosconi Cup

No. Jump cues add excitement to a somewhat boring game. Kick shots take skill but are not exciting. I enjoying watching matches. To get others to enjoy watching, you need anything and everything that can help make the game exciting to watch. You can argue that those people just don't understand the skill it takes to kick. Not the point. They are watching and we need them to watch again for the sport to grow.

Where do those little white spots that appear on the cloth immediately after a jump shot come from ?

Dave

They come from the cloth being pressed down and the reflection of the light. They come right up when the table is properly cleaned.

I have thought about all of this and used to show room owners at my booth by stabbing the tip into the cloth, making a white mark and then removing it in front of them.

Here is a video I did earlier today on this for you.

Just so happens I bought a Lomax J/B here couple week ago so I just did the text I did not put any small tears in the cloth and got most of the marks out but a few that were barely noticeable ,, what's bothering me is this is the same table I did a test on a few yrs back , I had it set up and coverd with 860 by a friend of mines crew
I broke the table down and moved it and set it up myself pulling the cloth as tight as I could get it
I'm baffled because I tried hard to put those little tears and could not even brought out the same jump cue I used before and same result no tears
So I'm wondering if the tightness of the cloth had a play in it because in his room I also saw the same marks and other places
The only thing I can think of is when the cloth was brand new the nap was a little higher creating more pull and now that it's older the ball skids a bit
I going to recover it again soon and I'll do a test again

I always give credit to my team. You would be wrong though if you think I don't work on cases or have anything to do with them. Every single thing that makes a JB Case is something that I created and did first and THEN taught my staff how to do.

Very far from your attempted claim at designing a jump cue to boost your credibility while trying to use the same industry involvement to shred mine.

You're not in my league in this industry Shawn and likely never will be. If ever you do become an actual contributing member to the industry I will welcome you and give you credit when you have gained some experience. Until then you're an outsider looking in.

Your arrogance is outstanding. Outside looking in? John, I'm one of the guys that works in a different industry, and then spends that money on pool. You're one of the guys taking that money, and making a living from it. And you choose to make fun of everything I say. I'm a paying customer for JB Cases, and bought a bunjee jumper. So you, in some way, have a career because of people like me. You've done absolutely nothing for me or my family. Put no bread on my table. Done nothing to benefit society in general. You are basically a guy that contracts people to make things for you in China, and profits from their efforts.

I don't aspire to be you, or anything like you. You live for conflict. And you actually think you're relevant in the industry. If you disappeared tomorrow, there would still be cue cases. And in 3 years, you'd be forgotten, aside from being the guy that lost $10k over a stupid aiming argument on the Internet. Someone else would hire your workers, and the same cases will go out with someone else's name on it. Instroke didn't shrivel up and die when John Collins left. You're the guy on the Oxy Clean tv commercials. There was the guy with the beard. He died. Then there was Vince. He went to jail. You're just a talking head. A poor man's Kevin Trudeau.

I am not making fun of you. You're the one discrediting me. You're the one who said nothing I say on this subject matters because I sold jump cues.

Then you turn around and want to talk to us about how you helped design a cue and you're so experience in the business. You can't see the hypocrisy?

And look at you now....trying to further put me down. All because you can't get your way in this discussion.

You know why Instroke didn't die? Because I created a good product and when I left they got to keep the good product. I created it. Then I got on the road and built the brand door-to-door.

You know what other product is still selling well? Bunjee Jump Cue and Jump Break Cues. Yep, that brand endures because of my efforts to promote them for several years, teaching hundreds of people around the world, making training videos and supplying thousands of people with great cues. You know why Billy Mays did so well, he understood the product, he understood that he was selling a product that really worked and how to demonstrate it effectively. There was nothing anyone else on earth knew more about Oxy Clean than Billy Mays. That's why the brand endures after he is gone - because it was a combination of a good product and a good salesman.

I am both. I BUILD products that are good and dependable and I sell them with confidence because I know everything about them. If I die today then JB Cases will keep going because my team was taught to build great cases by ME and my family knows what I expect to be done on each case. And anyone who sells them knows they are selling a good product that their customers can depend on. I build products that don't depend on me to be the one making them. That you don't get that is not surprising.

So keep being childish and trying to denigrate me just because you can't stand to lose an argument where you make up your own facts.

As for your quip about talking down to you as a customer. Save it. You go far beyond the customer role with the way you talk to and about and down to makers. I am not one of those makers that kisses the asses of customers. Not now, not with Instroke, not with Bunjee, not ever. I don't dance for your dollars Shawn so maybe that tack works on others but not on me.

I have a career DESPITE people like you. People like you are the reason people like me get disgusted with dealing with customers. You're truly the worst kind of customer Shawn, the kind who thinks he owns a maker just because he bought something. You don't. You own a cue case. You don't own my thoughts, you don't own my responses, and you certainly aren't entitled to eternal ass-kissing because you are or may be a customer at some point. Your very behaviour in this thread has been nothing short of disgusting and this last bit is the most disgusting of the bunch.

You are incapable of having a civil conversation Shawn. Any little pushback against your assertions and you go postal with the personal slurs. Let's recap shall we.

1. my views don't count because I was a jump cue "salesman".
2. I don't count because I don't make cases and exploit Chinese labor. (wondered when you would play the China card.)
3. Referenced my unmarried name - Collins - for what purpose?
4. False accusation that us "jump cue makers" lobbied the WPA for a rule change.

What else did I forget?

Oh, yes

5. I am a leech on society.

Let's tackle the last one shall we? While I do make luxury products that no one really needs.....sales of those products does employ 18 people on two continents. The revenue supports their families and my wife and two children. In addition UPS/DHL/FEDEX/USPS drivers get a lot of money from our business. Not to mention whatever the tax dollars get spent on. Oh and the exhibitions that get my money for booth space, the hotels and their employees, etc etc etc....seems to me that I am quite a productive member of society, much more so than you who takes a paycheck from someone like me every week.

Nice way to conduct yourself in a discussion about jump cues. All because you have a different opinion that in the end means NOTHING? I mean if you HONESTLY cared about it then you would be PETITIONING the WPA/CSI/BCA/VNEA/BARRY BEHRMAN and everyone else that allows jump cues to bar them.

But you don't do you? No, instead you bleat about how awful they are (despsite claiming to have owned and used so many of them) on a pool forum as if that means anything. I get it that you have a different opinion and I can disagree with you about it and present my reasons why, backed up with actual facts without ever once getting personal Shawn as I did in this thread until you decided to make it personal.

Feel free to send your case back for a 100% refund anytime if you don't think that you got the ownership over me and my thoughts that you seem to think came with your purchase.

More crap to make you feel important. John, the company I work for (yeah, the owner gives me a cheque to run his office) sells about $5M a year, with 4 salespeople. I'm one of them. Quick math - that's about 25,000 Ruggeds you'd need to pump out. Per year. I don't think you're quite there, John. Our products are also made in North America. Our biggest supplier is in Michigan City, Indiana. They employ 300 people, of which 20 of them just answer phones for us. But I guess our measley $100k in weekly shipments from the US into Canada and through our country pales in comparison to your case shipments. Hahahahahahaha!!!!!

You're awesome, Kevin. Expect your case back in the mail. You just offered a money back guarantee. I'll gladly take it. You need help. Medically. A hug. Something.

You know absolutely nothing about what I do, yet you post the above crap. Priceless. Really. I mentioned that I helped design the Falcon TNT. True fact. I never said I built it for Falcon. They could have done it themselves. They didn't. They got Jim to get me to do the work. That's fact. Take whatever meds you need to in order to understand that, John.

I could really care less about what you think. But your lies and rhetoric are getting old. You've been caught by many people blatantly lying. You actually met me. You lied right to my friends face last year when you sold him a case. You sold him a leather butterfly case. You sold it to him at the end of the show. Told him to not tell anyone how much he paid for the case, but you wanted the cash. It was priceless.

So I KNOW who you are. You know NOTHING about me.

Your hatred for John is pitiful, and the ONLY reason this thread is still alive.

I don't hate John. I find him amusing. He should be king of some country.

The air of superiority from people in an industry whose proceeds couldn't pay the taxes on the industry I work in is priceless.

Shouldn't you be watching an $8 kicking video?

Wrong as you often are ,, anytime you have the worlds best players voicing thier opinion
It can't go unheard some of which are sponsorerd by company's that are invested
Players should be the voice not people who have vested intrests
JB is obviously not inline with players that's pretty clear his best arguments are backed only by rules that players don't have much if any say in ,, who knows how much Palm greasing goes on behind the doors if it's anything like FIFA you can bet it's a lot
You have to wonder why the majority of pro's are against jump cues yet there still allowed

You don't know shit.

You work for someone else. I don't care what you claim your sales are it's not your company. This isn't a penis-measuring contest on which company does more sales.

As for meeting you, obviously you were too chicken to introduce yourself OR you're simply forgettable. I am going with the latter. As for selling a case at a discount maybe I did and maybe I didn't, we sell hundreds of cases a year and sometimes I will give discounts for various reasons as is my prerogative as the owner of the company.

I kind of doubt your story through if you're talking about last year's SBE because we just had our best year ever there and had zero reason to discount cases. But not saying I didn't. Don't see the relevance to the conversation here though....you're putting me down because I gave someone a good deal and allegedly asked him to keep quiet about it?

Good thing I didn't offer it to you given the unscrupulous way you handle yourself.

When I get the case, in good condition, you will get a refund. I actually get JOY out of FIRING a customer like you. You are truly, without a doubt, the WORST KIND OF PERSON any business could wish to have as a customer. The absolute worst. It is a delight to know that you will not own one of our cases and have the protection and durability we built into it. I fully expect you to go on a complete rampage denigrating me and my products after you get your money back.

In any event, while I was surprised when I saw your name on the customer list, I am so so so happy that you are going to be gone from it.

And after all that you're still wrong about jump cues.

Edit: When I get your case Shawn I am going to make a video especially for you. You will understand exactly how principled I am in this regard when I fire you on that video and make a production out of signing the refund check and mailing it to you.

First you don't know that it's the "majority" of pros. Secondly, ALL of the professional players on the planet have a direct line to the people who make the rules. If, in fact, the majority of them didn't want jump cues in major events then jump cues would be banned from all major events.

I personally don't care either way. Ban jumping, ban the jump cue, doesn't matter to me, I will still play pool and enjoy it. But as long as they are allowed I will voice my opinion in support of them for the reasons I have already stated. if they get banned I won't be starting any crusade to reinstate them.

Yes the opinions of the best players carries weight, we agree. But don't conflate the stated opinion of a few players with the will of the majority.

Edit: I should say I won't be starting a crusade but IF the rule makers were to ask for public opinion then I would gladly write a letter in support of keeping jump cues for the reasons I have stated. And then if the rule was to ban them I certainly wouldn't whine incessantly about it on AZ billiards or any other forum.

Don't try to make sense. Some people don't get it. My point has always been that John only supports something that makes him money. He supports and practiced with jump cues because....he ordered 500 jump cues to sell. He bad mouths every other cue case maker because...he makes cue cases. He stands behind PRODUCTS, not principles. He's Kevin Trudeau. Mini KT.

It's not an air of superiority. I simply know more about THIS subject than you do.

Yes our industry is small. So what? Does that give you the right to talk down to us and call us leeches on society among other things?

I mean it's particularly odious from a guy who loves to drop names and pretend to be "in the know" while constantly getting his facts wrong.

Shawn "the jump cue designer" Armstrong. has a nice ring to it doesn't it. The man whom Falcon at the behest of Jim Wych and Geoff ?? (sorry that other name doesn't mean anything to me) turned to in their desperate hour of need when they coulnd't figure out how to make a jump cue. Shawn graciously took a few hours out of his busy sales day to whip up a prototype which became the world reknowned Falcon TNT Break Jump cue. It explodes balls like an egg to your face.

But then Shawn lives now in eternal regret having unleashed the TNT on the pool world as millions of potentially good players are hobbled by their dependency on the cue he created and forgo building their kicking skills forever doomed to be lower level league players who don't know how to do anything but pull out their jump cue. His guilt eats him from the inside and he spends days and nights obsessing about how to undo this horror he bestowed on the world. He is relentless in sharing his opinion that jump cues are an abomination that should be banned on AZ billiards at every opportunity in the eternal hope that someday someone in power will see his pleas. He hopes that they will feel his anguish and agree with him and immediately ban jump cues so that he can have peace in his soul again.

Now I am making fun of you.

Players' opinions should be considered, but their opinions might not be in the best interests of the game either. I'd rather see a kick, but to a causal fan the jump shot is one of the most entertaining shots to watch, and I'm in favor of anything that can help pool become more mainstream entertainment.

I need to make a JB "Winning" meme....

Well, gee then explain the support for jump cues these past six years since I don't sell them.

And I praise my fellow case makers far more than I have said negative things about them.

I stand behind my products because I build products worth standing behind. I stand on principle when I REFUSE to kiss your ass just because you bought a case from us. Firing a customer like you is exactly the perfect example of standing on principle Shawn.

I practiced with the jump cue because I wanted to be able to credibly demonstrate them. I support them because I believe them to be a good addition to pool for the reasons I have stated. However, AGAIN, if they were banned tomorrow I woudn't care because I have no financial interest in them being allowed. In that regard I am just a pool player who has to play within the rules.

Jump cues are banned on the bar tables at the pool room closest to me. They are allowed on the big tables. Don't ask me why. I play there and adhere to their rules. I have spoken my piece on the subject to the owner and after that left it alone. All the other rooms around the city allow jump cues on all the tables.

IF I had a warehouse full of jump cues THEN I would certainly fight to keep them in the game as I wouldn't want to lose my investment. But my reasoning would be the same as I have laid out here a dozen times. If I ever felt that they did detract from the game or harm the other equipment then I would have never sold them in the first place.

Which brings us back to the people who have allowed them. These are intelligent people who care about pool and have zero to gain by allowing jump cues. They are not paid by or sponsored by jump cue makers. No one bribed them or otherwise influenced them into allowing jump cues. They considered the issue and amended the rules to cover jump cues and that was that. Maybe some were against jump cues and the vote went in favor anyway, that I don't know. What I do know is that for more than 20 years the rules are clear about jump cues in the World Pool Association and there has not been a single time when a successful jump shot in a world tournament was not met with cheers from the audience that I know of.
