In watching the big foot challenge, I noticed the big foot has drop pockets. I've never seen a 9' pro-am with drop pockets.

Anyone know if Diamond makes a drop pocket pro-am?

I would bet one can be special ordered if it is not standard production.

The hall I frequent has two tables that were specially ordered from Diamond with totally different cut corner pockets & I'm fairly sure that even the shelf cut was custom.

The 10' pro-am is a little different interal build than the 9' Pro-am.
Diamond did this for several logical reasons..

I can't say I'm a big fan of the deep shelf but from a build quality point of view...built like a brick shit house.

What do you mean by "drop pockets"? Danny Harriman's definition is probably very different from yours, and is not a good thing!

I mean pockets with no ball return.

Is there a Harriman story I should know about it?

Sorry. He may have a story or two, but let's just say his version of drop pockets are ones where the slate has been ground down near the pockets so that balls fall more easily.

Hmmm. That might help my game!

Where's my file...

When I was at the Diamond factory last, I designed the 9ft billiard table to be able to be switched to a drop pocket 9ft ProAm so the table could be switched back and forth if one wanted to. Call Aaron 812-288-7665 and ask him if Diamond is offering the 9ft ProAm with the drop pocket version yet....I haven't been back in over 3 1/2 years so I don't know off hand, but I'll be back there in late March coming up.

Thanks, Glen. I'm over a year away from deciding on whether to get a new table, so I will not be bugging them yet.

Plywood

I'm looking at those pics of that well built Diamond table and thinking that is a lot of money to pay for a bunch of ply wood. But, the end result is nice.

I'm not sure why someone would want a drop pocket diamond table. The ball return system is the fastest I've ever seen and it's very quiet. Honestly the only time I get why you want a drop pocket table is if you wanted the leather pockets for looks.

For me, I just like reaching in the pockets to pull out balls when practicing. Which is 90% of what my table is used for. Just don't prefer going to end of table to keep getting the balls and bending down my not be great for some of the older guys, which I think I my qualify as now !!

Well, I'm at Derby and I can take a lunch break faster than the smart table ball return

How much did you last pay for 4'x10'× 1 1/2" and timber strand solid beams, let alone all the rest of the materials needed to build that "cheap" Diamond?

I had the chance of watching the installation and setup of the Pro Am for the Mosconi cup this year at the Tropicana Hotel the day before the event, Sunday. To my surprise I saw the same team of two that installed and setup my Pro Am at home, that's how I got in. That was the first question I ask, about the drop pockets on tournament tables and got a quick and logical answer, because of the noise of the return when microphones are around, echoes on the room, not good for filming. The tables are built complete with return system by default at the factory but blocked on installation.

Drop pocket is much better for one-pocket - easier to count the balls, avoids fighting about who made the ball both forgot in the ball return
