back then, efren's stroke was sooo unorthodox, to the point where you'd think there's no way this guy can play. funny, now the efren 'pump' stroke seems more like the norm.
I think it's interesting that not only is keith smoking on tv, but the spectators too. right around the 20 minute mark, you can see a lady in the stands smoking. hell, nowadays, for better or for worse, you can't even smoke in the local pool hall, let alone a televised tournament.
Yes, I noticed that too. Times have certainly changed regarding smoking in public. I think it is for the better. I don't smoke and find it annoying to deal with second hand smoke- the smell and the possible health implications
Oldtimers will recognize a middle-aged Richie Florence, moderately overweight, a few rows back in the sky-blue shirt and sitting and 'splaining things with his teenage son or nephew. Richie, as he got older, turned from great young superstar to event promoter. I hate seeing him light up a smoke a few times during the games. For most of the 20th century smoking was the norm in all high-stakes pool gambling, all tournaments, and virtually all local pool venues and fraternal organizations with pool tables. Richie eventually passed away much too young -- in his mid-fifties from cardiac challenges. We lost a lot of great players and pool buddies much too early partly attributable to the cigs.
