I looked up my stats today and saw that I have played 1,000 matches. in apa so far.
I would presume other members have reached that number ala but I doubt very few have done it in the time frame I have. I joined apa in July of 2010....5 years and 7 months ago to be exact.
I would like fo take this time to share my experience so far and to address son peoples pet peeves and perhaps mis conception concerning apa.
Drinking....yes quite a few drink I see nothing wrong with that as I think it helps keep venues open. As far as drunks go...very few and one was kicked out of the league.
Social league. I have to say most in my area are pretty serious about the game
Slop....quite a bit of it from lower level players. Not so much from 5's and up. Being a former bar room player used to calling every thing I have to admit slop used to really bother me.....a lot. Since I took the attitude that I am spotting them slop shots much like a serious higher level player. Spotting a lesser opponent a few balls it does not bother me as much
Now onto every ones favorite apa subject...sand bagging
I just don't see much evidence of it I I do know for a fact 2 players in my area that are sand baggers. Most players who I had the opinion of that might be under handicapped have eventually all been . Raised
Heck I have even been called a sandbagger numerous times.... Had opponents complain to their team mates about my handicap...even had a few complain to the lo.
The most recent complaint is the most ludicrous of all. Last wed in 9 ball scotch doubles cities my score keeper over heard my opponent complaining about my handicap to his team mates. We are both 5's and he Los by 2 points. Wtf was his complaint about ? I just chalked it up to the fact that most people who are looking for the reason they Los a match cannot look in the mirror. They gotta blame their opponents handicap...the equipment ...the environment every thing by their selves
The apa handicapping system.... With a lifetime win % of 51.68 % In 8 ball and a 52.03% in 9 ball over a 5 /12 year period covering 1,000 matches I would say the handicapping system does the job it was designed to do.
