I looked up my stats today and saw that I have played 1,000 matches. in apa so far.

I would presume other members have reached that number ala but I doubt very few have done it in the time frame I have. I joined apa in July of 2010....5 years and 7 months ago to be exact.

I would like fo take this time to share my experience so far and to address son peoples pet peeves and perhaps mis conception concerning apa.

Drinking....yes quite a few drink I see nothing wrong with that as I think it helps keep venues open. As far as drunks go...very few and one was kicked out of the league.

Social league. I have to say most in my area are pretty serious about the game

Slop....quite a bit of it from lower level players. Not so much from 5's and up. Being a former bar room player used to calling every thing I have to admit slop used to really bother me.....a lot. Since I took the attitude that I am spotting them slop shots much like a serious higher level player. Spotting a lesser opponent a few balls it does not bother me as much

Now onto every ones favorite apa subject...sand bagging
I just don't see much evidence of it I I do know for a fact 2 players in my area that are sand baggers. Most players who I had the opinion of that might be under handicapped have eventually all been . Raised

Heck I have even been called a sandbagger numerous times.... Had opponents complain to their team mates about my handicap...even had a few complain to the lo.

The most recent complaint is the most ludicrous of all. Last wed in 9 ball scotch doubles cities my score keeper over heard my opponent complaining about my handicap to his team mates. We are both 5's and he Los by 2 points. Wtf was his complaint about ? I just chalked it up to the fact that most people who are looking for the reason they Los a match cannot look in the mirror. They gotta blame their opponents handicap...the equipment ...the environment every thing by their selves

The apa handicapping system.... With a lifetime win % of 51.68 % In 8 ball and a 52.03% in 9 ball over a 5 /12 year period covering 1,000 matches I would say the handicapping system does the job it was designed to do.

Congratulations on your 1000 matches.
5&1/2 years is a lot of time invested into the sport and it is commendable.

Do you have any goals of increasing a skill level maybe to reach APA 7?
Do you feel the handicap system has held you back in terms of challenging yourself to play at a higher level?

You made it to APA 5 after 1,000 matches, where do you see yourself after 2000 matches?

Wow, that's a lot of matches pretty quick. I'm at 863, so at my current rate it'll be another ten years. League is still fun, though.

A while back I had the goal to reach a 7/7 and sometimes I am capable of playing at that level but I find it physically and mentally draining to stay that focused . I am 61 years old now and my body and brain just can't hold up at that level night after night.

I did reach a s/l 6 in 8 ball a while back but was lowered to a 5 again where I currently am.

I have fluctuated between a 5 and a 6 quite a bit lately in 9 ball. z a matter of fact expect to be raised to a 6 again this week . I won vs another 5 the other night by 38-15 in 10 innings while playing 3 safes.which as you know will lower your inning count

As for your question about the handicap system holding me back. I am usually the highest ranked player on most teams and as a result I usually play the higher ranked players on the other teams...in other words I face mostly 6's of higher.

It's quite challenging to beat a 7 in a 5/3 race because a ( could be any where from a c plus to semi pro player. I have beat 7's in 8 ball not needing the handicap.

9 ball is a different story. If my break is working good I can hold my own with any one Iin The. League I including 9's. I have beat 6's and 7' s not needing the handicap but my consistency sucks and I am eventually lowered again.

Az for hitting 2..000 ..at 61 years old I dont really think I am gonna see that mark and ic I do it sure will not be as fast as I reached 1.000 because I have cut back playing as often every week .

1,000 apa matches in under 6 years? The math in my mind is telling me that is not possible. 52 weeks in a year, right? That is 104 matches a year if you play 2 league nights per week (8 ball and 9 ball). Unless you played apa more then 2 nights a week, but how is that possible? Sorry, I am not too bright , so I might be missing something here. Please do not make fun of me if I missed something in my simple math skills.

I play more than 2 nights a week my friend:grin-square:

Here is my schedule

Sunday night double jeapordy. I play both 8 and 9 ball
Tuesday night 8 ball travel
Wednesday night double jeapordy ...again both 8 and 9 ball
Thursday night 9 ball travel
Friday night scotch doubles double jeapordy...again both 8 and 9 ball

Last but not least...once a month masters where we play 2 matches check your math with that schedule

Honestly from reading your "how are y'all doing in league thread", I believe you're a sandbagger. If I won matches at Tricups and in league like you I'd be a 7!!! I kid I kid. Love that thread and congrats on 1000 matches. I'm just over 200 since starting 2.5 years ago and am a 6/6. Briefly reached a 7. Keep shooting well.

Congratulations Lorider, Man you are a Machine!!! I'm in my 16th year this year, and right now I'm at 985 give or take so I'll finally break 1,000 in the next few weeks. :D I'm currently playing the most that I've ever played, with APA 9 Ball on Sunday, APA 8 on Tuesday and Wednesday and Finally APA Masters on Thursday. Since the Summer I've been experimenting with TAP 8 Ball on Monday's :frown:

Keep at it, from all of your posts I know that you love the game. As long as you continue to do that doesn't really matter what your SL is as long as you stay competitive.

Lol:wink:

Yes I seem to do pretty good in tri cups and higher.....most of the time. Guess you have missed the posts in that thread where I did not do too good lol.

2 weeks ago I did great in 9 ball cities where i went undefeated..this week I played lousy in 8 ball cities where I did not win a game. Chit happens lol

Wow, that's impressive! I'm in my 4th year in APA and up to 190 matches, wish I had more time to spend playing/practicing though.

lorider, you have played a lot of pool and I only post this because when I looked at this girls stats a few weeks ago I was amazed and you're right there are not a lot of people with those numbers. She started in our APA League area on our team and one other in the Summer 2011 session. As of today when I check stats she has played 687 8 ball & 691 9 ball matches Total of 1,378 she's now a 5 in both. I think that is insane. I've been playing since 92 and I have 750 8 ball & 371 9 ball. Total of 1,121. When I started we only had 8 ball. I only played on 2 teams for about 3 years, and the rest of the time I played on 1. Because of my teams numbers I've only averaged about 10 matches a session in both for the last few years.

So, all of those league nights are APA? None are BCA, or any other organization leagues? I was just curious how you could get 1,000 matches in under 6 years, because it sounded like you were only talking APA league. I always thought that APA was just for 8 ball and 9 ball. When I went to the APA singles nationals, they were only playing 2 games (8 ball and 9 ball). Maybe a lot has changed since I played APA way back in 2002. By the way, I hated APA and quit, because I thought it was very boring, and my team captain rarely ever played me. I would go, and sit there for 3 hours (bored out of my mind), and never get played. I got tired of it, and just quit. I was barely able to get enough matches in to qualify to play in the mini tournaments at the singles nationals. That was very exciting (being out in Vegas), and a lot of fun by the way (I won 6 out of 7 mini tournaments in 3 days).

Yes its strictly apa for those 1,000 matchs

I played a year in bcapl and have no idea how many matches I played as they did not keep stats

I played 2 1/2 years in Napa and iirc correctly I have around 175 matches in that league

No telling how many matches I played In Various money leagues for 3-4 years

As for sittin around for 3 hours and then not playing.....that is why I prefer double jeapordy where we play both 8 and 9 ball the same night. Every one is gonna play at least once and most will play 2.
