I think the opposite is true. Except for the missing more part. I agree with that. I think better than learning to cheat the pocket is learning how to shoot the object ball *exactly* where you want, and in so doing learn very accurate *cueing* so that you use your cueing to play position rather than your aim. THAT, I believe, will improve your position play dramatically, while simultaneously reducing the amount you miss. In the vast majority of shots in which people "cheat the pocket", they could have just as well hit center pocket and altered their cuing to achieve the position they wanted. Obviously on dead straight shots this might not be possible, but I'd still rather attempt to cheat the pocket *only* on those dead straight shots, especially with my improved accuracy acquired from really learning to shoot the ball exactly where I intend.
I'd definitely rather get out of line than miss.
