If you cheat the pocket on all your shots then your position play will improve dramatically.

You will also miss more.

Use this knowledge as needed.

Can a mod change the thread title to "A well known fact that every pool player understands" please. I feel that would better describe all pool players current understanding of this concept.
 
I only shoot dead center pocket on every shot, like a real man.
You cheaters should be ashamed of yourselves.

I think the opposite is true. Except for the missing more part. I agree with that. I think better than learning to cheat the pocket is learning how to shoot the object ball *exactly* where you want, and in so doing learn very accurate *cueing* so that you use your cueing to play position rather than your aim. THAT, I believe, will improve your position play dramatically, while simultaneously reducing the amount you miss. In the vast majority of shots in which people "cheat the pocket", they could have just as well hit center pocket and altered their cuing to achieve the position they wanted. Obviously on dead straight shots this might not be possible, but I'd still rather attempt to cheat the pocket *only* on those dead straight shots, especially with my improved accuracy acquired from really learning to shoot the ball exactly where I intend.

I'd definitely rather get out of line than miss.

You don't have to tell us the completely obvious, the merely obvious will do.

In your reference to CJ you left out a vital tid bit of info. He promotes cheating the pocket when utilizing inside as it will then "hit" the center of the pocket due to throw. Again this is another given that needed no explanation.

To add....in my pool world, there is no such thing as cheating the pocket. There is only putting the OB where I want in the pocket with the CB going to a position I determine.

The next series of shots, not just the next one, but the next,at least three shots, determine where in the pocket I put the first OB in the start of that three ball series.

It's all about angles off the OB and where I need to put the CB that guides me to where to put the OB in the pocket.

if you cheat the pocket, you will have created a slightly different contact angle, but your position play abilities will remain the same. ;)
 
I am just a noob and a banger, with that out of the way can someone please explain to me how cheating the pocket help position play?????:confused::confused:

It doesn't help your position play, per se, but simply allows more OPTIONS for position play, given that you can slightly change the tangent line of the shot by cheating the pocket. Some shots just aren't possible unless you cheat the pocket.
