SouthWest Cues are being sold more and more it is true.
Today I called a buddy because he was looking for a no wrap SouthWest to say Greg Antonakis had a beauty and it was reasonable.
He had already seen it. They are friends. I think he likes the Alves fronts with purple heart points or ebony because he bought mine years ago.
Then he remarked someone just bought a SouthWest from pictures on line and mentioned facebook?
When the Cue arrived the pin was bare. It was not the pin pictured of the Cue for sale.
Pure knock off.
If you are buying or in the market for a SW Cue buy from an established seller.
You will get what you pay for.
If Greg had a exotic wood no wrap he liked it would have been gone.
My buddy is 8ballstinger on ebay.
This was from him to me.
I thought sharing wise for all.

Unless someone is doing a daily inventory of all the cue ever built by SW and using the list of numbers, how would you know?

Do they post a list of all their cues, by number, by design, so people can identify and prove their authenticity? NOT!!!!

Same way there are probably 5,000 Balabushkas around the world and he only made 1,200 or so in his lifetime.
 
SW pin question

When did they start engraving the cactus on the pin? Are all SW's numbered?
 
Hold on. I think before you make a post like this being well educated on sw cues is important. There are early sw cues that do not have any markings.

Right. Neither of mine had any marks and were both were made by Jerry.
 
Here's a legit one. I agree with Nick on one point, it's always best to buy from those with solid reps. :thumbup:

Buying from people with solid reps is ideal.

You can take a shot on someone unknown if you wish but you better make sure to cover yourself really well.

Before YOU make a post like THIS maybe you should read his entire post. Nick said what arrived was NOT THE PIN PICTURED IN THE FOR SALE ADD...

FWIW, Nick is very well "educated" to SW cues....

I suppose it could happen with any make of cue, or anything that can be bought or sold online, right?

It's a little crazy that the pin was the only difference the buyer seemed to be able to distinguish between what was pictured and what was received.

Third-hand information is always a tough swallow. It would probably be better received by some members here minus the added shill work.

What's the pin number? There's a good chance the cue's owner will see this and be able to provide some actual information.

And, just for reference, if a person knows their ass from their elbow, with a little research and commonsense it's pretty easy to make well-informed, well-protected purchases in most cases.

That goes without saying.

If what you mean is it's always best to buy from established dealers, then my question is: Best for whom?

I was going to list my predate very soon. I'll probably hold-off in the wake of this nonsense. When I do decide to sell it, I can guarantee it'll be priced for at least 30 percent less than any of the 'good ol' boys' would be asking.

You can see the attraction though right? Saving more than a few bucks on a high end cue? Greed is the cause most of the time when people do stupid things.

I'm really not sure, but what I do know is that it's completely unnecessary to corner and squash guys who try to sell a cue every now and then as part of their hobby.

Correct-a-mundo ... just ask member, Saint1. He owns several
Authentic SW'S which lack the usual identifying traits.

I truly think the guy selling the fake cue should be BEAT THOROUGHLY with it though!!!

I've bought 3 Southwests from total holes in the wall without incident. Just because a crazily described deal possibly went wrong, it doesn't mean it's open-season for the good shepherds to scare people into their loving arms.

But you bought 3 real ones correct? I'm just talking about someone who is knowingly out there trying to rip folks off.

Yes, three real ones.

I have a working brain, so I figured out pretty fast how to make smart purchases. If a person doesn't have a working brain, they should, by all means, pay absolute top-dollar to have a dealer do the thinking for them.

Bad deals are not exclusive to Southwests, and the original poster should have had some real and specific information before he threw everyone but the dealers under the bus.

Over the past 5 years, I've seen and heard about lots more fake Scruggs than SW, but I don't see Nick scaring-off Scruggs buyers.
