warped shafts

i bought a cue on the board and when i got it all three shafts are warped/tapered/rolled or what ever you would call it. i paid top dollar for the cue and i really like the forearm/butt.
everything being said. can a shaft really be "straighten" ? or should i just buy an aftermarket shaft ?
 
Buy a straight shaft and you'll be happier. Some say that a shaft can be straightened, but I find it to be a can of worms. There is a reason the wood did not stay straight....

i am not sure why they are the way they are. i just bought the cue. The cue was made in 2013 and the cue maker is well known (tony guerra) however it seems he is hard to contact. i was thinking i would have him make me a 13mm straight taper shaft but that does not seem likely at this point. I had a local guy (greg wilson of lexington billiards) look at it and he said it was not that bad but they are not straight either.

The Jacoby shaft straightener has provided good results to a lot of people. I'll let others chime in who have used one as I'm a dealer so I would prefer someone else to second this claim. If you search it, someone a while back was saying how great they are.
 
thanks for the reply. i looked at several y/t videos. i guess this is something i would not attempt. i have read many stories where others have had great success with the tool.
 
I see that you live in KY. The cue was shipped from CA, correct? Could it possibly be a climate change going on? I don't know...just a thought.

If it came with three shafts, and the seller stated they were all straight, but when you got them, all 3 are warped, then I would ask for a full refund from the seller, and send it back insured. A stand up seller here would do the right thing and do the refund, case closed. At the same time though, this should have been discussed with the seller Via PMs first and foremost, before coming here on the open forum and naming names of the maker, but not the seller. If the seller says, too bad, then posting to warn others is an option.

I have used the Jacoby straightening tool with great success. I used it on some shafts about 3 years ago - they are still straight!

i am not trying to bash the seller (honestly) i love the look of the cue and i decided to keep it.
the seller did not make any statements about the cue being straight and i did not ask.

If i could contact of the maker i would inquire about having a matching shaft made but at this point i think i may buy a production shaft and be done with it.

i do not think the seller knew they were not straight. That being said i did not think that the shafts would bother me but for some reason it does :(

its not like i am a great player or anything.

maybe, i am going to do as another member suggested and leave them hanging for a few weeks and see what happens, who knows i might get lucky :thumbup:

Have him return payment and ship it back.

If needed he can refund payment to a 3rd party escrow. ...then once cue is received, you get refund...

It has been discussed here before, and if memory serves me correctly, it can/will leave flat areas, which then need to be sanded to blend it, then resealed/polished.

OK and thanks. after talking to a friend who owns a billiard shop (Greg Wilson of lexington billiards) said that its not that bad and i should just enjoy it :)
i think i will take his advice.
