Women versus Men: Fargo Ratings

Mike,

I have a follow-up question - sorry if this is dealt with elsewhere.

Have you done any analysis of applicability of Fargo ratings from game to game? Is someone likely to have the same rating in 9 ball, 10 ball, 8-ball? (I'm excluding 1P and banks)

I thought of this because of your comments on men vs women and the break. The importance of the break at the very top level in 10 ball might make a difference between men and women (as the 9ball break is easier, IMO, and I would expect that most of the women's stats are from 9ball).

Yes we have. A while back. And we found the players play the games closer to the same speed than many people imagine. That is, when it seems someone is better at rotation than 8-ball or visa versa, we have seen the actual difference be smaller than perceived or nonexistent.

I agree with you. As an aside I think the importance of the break in high-level pool is a serious flaw in the structure of our game.

Nice.. It seems as if we finally have an equivalent of a USCF/FIDE rating in chess, but only for pool now.

It seems that small five-to-ten man tournaments specifically for Fargo ratings would be feasible.... Just need a trusted tournament director to administer.

When does the app come out that allows one to administer this sort of tournament and report back to FargoRate HQ?

Nice analysis.

Off topic:
For fun, is there any way you can do a 1 pocket rating. I'm really curious to see how much higher Efren would be than everyone else. Maybe 100 points higher? Just using the DCC 1 pocket results would be sufficient, I'd imagine.

Wouldn't you need to discount for time? Alex has won the last two years and Efren is no longer the dominant force in that event, although still world class.

FargoRate already discounts old results with a half-life of three years.
