Sbe " not like it used to be, or should be"

What another horrible SBE. First off. Not many cue makers or venders like the old days. Second the payouts are horrible. Entry's go up but first place stays the same. In the amateur open first is $5000. Entry's went up and first stayed the same. When the expo first started first place was $5000. They only had a couple hundred players. Now they average 1000 players. You do the math!!!!! Then they have a pro one pocket tournament with only like four pros playing and some forfeited because of scheduling conflicts with other matches. Also first in that event was $1600 with a $225 entry. Wow!!! That's awesome. NOT !!!!!!!!! The worst part is how year after year pro bartable players are aloud to sneak into the AMATEUR open event Which most of the time one of them wins. It's just a real let down to see this happen. Players that have sponsors or win gambling with other pros or winning tournaments with other pros should not be aloud to play. That's why they have a pro am event also every year. And I'm not the only one complAining. I've heard it the entire weekend. And also what's up with the pro ten ball. Double elimination and then single with the last 8. That's a another great idea !!!! Wtf!!!! Just horrible!!!!

I can feel the sharks lurking in the waters. Be prepared because apparently youre an idiot for so many different reasons that you have never realized. Let me see if I can predict a few of what this will TURN into.

1. Who are you to judge how much money Allen makes?
2. Who are you to judge how to run a tournament? Whem was the last tournament that you ran?
3. Why are complaining about payouts, you didnt win and had no chance so why would it bother you.
4. You're a communist. (haven't seen this one yet, but dying to).
5. You just hate professional pool players.
6. You just hate Allen
7. You're the worlds biggest nit.
8. If you dont like it, them dont go.
9. You just want something for nothing.
10. Ive been on AZ longer than you. I know the billiard world better than you and you are not allowed to have a different opinion than me.

And so many more....

Rant on brother, youre entitled to your opinion. Just keep the lurking sharks from twisting it into something different.

The only people who could complain would be the couple individual winners of each event. If you go back and look at the past year payouts, this year paid out thousands of dollars more. For example, the pro event still paid out 10000 4 1st place with a total payout of over 49,000 compared to 41000 last year. Same thing with the amateur event. 33rd thru 64th this year paid out $800 compared to last year paying out 500. You should do a little research before complaining without knowing the facts

Then don't go.. It's still the best event in the country every year. Every pool player either is there or wants to be there. Maybe you aren't aware but the first years of the expo allen lost money But had a vision and stuck with it. You do know all the people you see running the event get paid right? The expo doesn't give him that spot for free he has to pay for that. Did you talk to the venders? The economy isn't as great as you think. The reason cue venders are pulling it out is people aren't buying. they aren't making money so they're staying home. With all the work that goes into putting on this event I hope he goes home with a pocket full of cash. Honestly I don't worry about it.. I go... I enjoy a weekend of pool utopia and I leave looking forward to next year.
Your certainly entitled to your opinion but to all the people who don't like the event or the cost or how much money you think allen is making VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET. DON'T GO! I'll be there though happy to be completely surrounded by the greatest game on earth!

beaten to the punch. So few mention in their rant the other spots paid out, it's always "WHAT, only this for first with a BILLION in the pot? And the next thing they do is assume that all of your over head cost the same every year like you go to the next place and say "hey, rent only cost me X last year and the ones before so what gives? And no i don't care how well your business has been doing lately."

Some of the name calling for a difference of opinion or view is not necessary but some of the rants or complaints just make no sense.

I thought it was funny that a guy wins the amateur event who a couple of weeks ago was going on all over Facebook that he was an elite pro and should get paid to be on pool streams.

Have to agree with you on this point. Shane Winters is NOT an amateur player by any definition. If you look through all the brackets, both present and past champion players were sprinkled through the fields. Esprecially in the "Amateur Open".

The rest of your diatribe regarding the amateur payouts is pure BS. The fact Allen paid 33 - 64 $800 instead of $500, $3000 to second instead of $1800, $2000 each to third / fourth instead of $1500 in the Open seems to have eluded you. In the seniors, 17 - 32 went from $400 to $500. Was 9 - 16 both last year and this year. Last year I received $550. This year $650. You need to do a bit more research before you slander Allen on this forum.

Last but not least, you seem to have also missed the fact that $25 per entry is the registration fee for the event. Who do you think pays to have the two hundred or so tables moved in and out of the arena? Who pays for the expo building? Who pays the staff? We both know who that is! Please take a moment or so to redo your math. Every year Allen pays out MORE to the amateurs than he takes in (less the registration fee).

Personally I hope Allen made a million dollars. Then perhaps we'd have two SBE's. Can you imagine every three months an SBE? One in Philly, one in Dallas, one in Chicago and one in Vegas. Be still my beating heart!!!!!

Well put, it feel like this thread could of ended right here but I had to compliment you and also say "DAMN! did not realize that Winters won, but I guess there's a fine line between Pro and Am" He was called "not a Pro" in his getting paid rant but I guess he's also not an Am

Considering the state of the billiards world, we should be thankful that such an event continues to be staged.

I'm with you. The league I play in my area is TAP, they put on a national event every year you need to win locally to qualify and this event is on a totally different level. You can put together a dream team and play regardless of qualifying and you get a much larger tourney surrounded by pro players and better competition, more vendors and all the action you can dream of. Like you said, vote with your wallet and if an event like this stopped we'd hear more complaining. There's things to improve on, but all in all given the variables and conflicts that happen this is the best event of the year to attend besides derby. I'm thankful Allen and his crew puts this together year after year.

So, I have a question that I haven't seen or read yet.

If (assuming) the Hopkins crew is pulling off such a grand heist, and making tons of money year after year, then-------------------

WHY ISN'T ANYONE ELSE DOING IT????????

Exactly. Allen does a great job. I can't imagine how much work goes into an event like this. It's a huge undertaking. If you see Allen there he is moving non stop. You should be thanking him, not critisizing him. The only reason you or anybody travels there is because it is the premier amatuer event in pool with a ton of vendors present. If you don't like it or how it is presented, you should save your money and stay home.

This gets my nomination for best reply on this thread.
