Every time I hear someone talk about how much better 14.1 is compared to 9 or 10 ball because of the break and runs or the wing ball going in and the player in the chair not getting a chance to come to the table, I think the same thing.
How about fading a 100 ball run and a strong safety going to 150! The wing ball going every time might be a little less painful then!
Well put. When I was just a kid my Pop took me to see the 14.1 championship final between Irving Crane & Joe Balsis.
Joe missed early, Irving ran 150 & out. Joe calmly sat there & smoked cigarettes & watched. No emotion on his face betraying how he felt about it. This is how Champions act when faced with adversity.
Now look at this match. At one point about 5 racks in Jason finishes the rack & Mika is just slumped in his chair & takes quite a bit of time before he dramatically sets his cue down & rises to rack. Every rack his body language gets worse, he lost his composure & when presented an opportunity next he tries an ill fated jump with a break cue & leaves a shot & hurls his cue & sits there & pouts like a recalcitrant child, his cue still on the floor, hardly the behavior of a Champion & surely not what anyone wants to emulate. His poor behavior became more demonstrative with each rack. What I find disturbing also is whomever was the custodian of this video attempted to cut it out of the video after the fact.
You see Mika hurl his cue & the picture breaks up & then resumes with Mika slumped in his chair, his cue on the ground at his feet. I assume as this was an AZB TV video that old Upstate Al was probably responsible for this attempted edit. I don't say that because I know for sure but because of something I find troubling about the commentary in the match.
As someone said in an earlier post. This is 1 of the most dominant sets of rotation pool on tape anywhere. Instead of describing the mastery taking place before him & those viewing the stream Al is busy seemingly making apologies to those viewing for this disassembly of Mika by Jason. How many times did he say "Mika did nothing wrong". "Mikas giving good racks, he's not do dadding anyone". Mika this, Mika that, instead of doing what he should have been doing, describing the pure mastery shown by Jason in his performance & give him his due instead of kissing Mikas azz from the booth, that was in poor taste.
As alluded to in an earlier post. If you watch this and CAN'T appreciate what you just viewed I find it hard to believe you're a fan of this game.
