this is why I hate 9 ball

World champion doesn't get a real chance in a race to 9 until he's down 8-0. What other sport can you think of where a World Champ and a hall of famer in his prime gets so effortlessly destroyed by another player. Can you imagine someone destroying Floyd Maywheather so effortlessly in a ring? Just toying with him without breaking a sweat? Or chess champion Magnus Carlsen? Too much luck in 9 ball or perhaps in pool in general. If you test their stroke and CB control there's no way Jason is that much better than Mika.

I take it you also hate 14.1, 8 ball, and one pocket for the same reason.;)

I would take him over Mika any day and probably give you odds.

Then you didn't watch the video. The point is not who's better. The point is it could have been Efren or SVB or anybody instead of Mika and it still would have probably been 9-1.

I did watch the video. It didn't last long at all. I watched it live as well. Mika missed 4 shots and Jayson only missed once....and a safe shot.

Take up ping pong then. This IS 9 ball as it should be. Mike Zuglan hasn't caved to all the vacillating formats. It's the rules as they always were & should be.

No jump cues either. Love it when Mika tries to jump with his break cue & leaves an open shot & hurls his cue to the ground & sits in the chair pouting like a girl that got felt up at the drive in INSTEAD of acting like a true World Champion as you state he is, should.

It's that arrogant sense of entitlement that makes me enjoy watching Jason shove his nose in it.

Not really. Mika missed quite a few shots that he should have been able to make. The announcer at one point comments that Mika was cold from sitting in his chair for so long but it had only been about 7 minutes. He missed that shot and to be honest it was not easy but was very makeble.

Mika had his chances- Jason just played better.

Alternate breaks.
Thanks for mentioning Carlsen.
I'm also a chess player. lol. GM.

Do you watch any 14.1? Happens quite a bit. How about one pocket or eight ball. Happens in those games also. I think it's one of the unique things about this game that we get to watch somebody play almost perfect and dominate his opponent that way. Doesn't hurt to see Mika get bent like that. A great learning experience for all...IMHO:groucho:
I don't know what their Fargo ratings are, or their overall AZB rankings, but I would guess it's fairly close. On that night, Jason was the better player.

Happens in all sports... Tiger in golf at his prime. Hendry in snooker seemed at times to pot the impossible and clear the table. My opinion, just relax and enjoy a master of his craft in action.

Fights have ended in the first round....
....do you think boxers should have to give the other guy a turn.

I like nine-ball the way it is.

9 and 10 ball matches just need to be sufficiently long so that luck evens out. We don't have tv coverage so I like the idea of making the matches races to 15. No one is running 15 racks and even if they manage to run 10, there is still time to catch up.

Watching others play?

This makes you hate a game?

I just don't get that.

I am not a spectator. And I love pool.

.

One of the most dominant sets of rotation pool every played. ...and you don't appreciate it? Are you even a pool player?

Is your name Mika? It's okay to be angry.

Not really..,

Pool needs more Money and more tournaments, like bowling. There was a tournament every week in bowling so the players had a chance to recover from bad play or bad rolls.

If there were more high dollar tournaments for the players then the luck would balance out because a player would have a chance at a good outcome 2 or 3 times a month and it would be worth it financially to participate, so short race or long wouldn't matter so long as they could get back to it right after a tough lost.

Good point.

Every time I hear someone talk about how much better 14.1 is compared to 9 or 10 ball because of the break and runs or the wing ball going in and the player in the chair not getting a chance to come to the table, I think the same thing.

How about fading a 100 ball run and a strong safety going to 150! The wing ball going every time might be a little less painful then!

As I said above: ALTERNATE BREAKS!
It is the future of this game.
Winner breaks is out. Alternate breaks is in.
ESPECIALLY at the pro level.

Well put. When I was just a kid my Pop took me to see the 14.1 championship final between Irving Crane & Joe Balsis.

Joe missed early, Irving ran 150 & out. Joe calmly sat there & smoked cigarettes & watched. No emotion on his face betraying how he felt about it. This is how Champions act when faced with adversity.

Now look at this match. At one point about 5 racks in Jason finishes the rack & Mika is just slumped in his chair & takes quite a bit of time before he dramatically sets his cue down & rises to rack. Every rack his body language gets worse, he lost his composure & when presented an opportunity next he tries an ill fated jump with a break cue & leaves a shot & hurls his cue & sits there & pouts like a recalcitrant child, his cue still on the floor, hardly the behavior of a Champion & surely not what anyone wants to emulate. His poor behavior became more demonstrative with each rack. What I find disturbing also is whomever was the custodian of this video attempted to cut it out of the video after the fact.

You see Mika hurl his cue & the picture breaks up & then resumes with Mika slumped in his chair, his cue on the ground at his feet. I assume as this was an AZB TV video that old Upstate Al was probably responsible for this attempted edit. I don't say that because I know for sure but because of something I find troubling about the commentary in the match.

As someone said in an earlier post. This is 1 of the most dominant sets of rotation pool on tape anywhere. Instead of describing the mastery taking place before him & those viewing the stream Al is busy seemingly making apologies to those viewing for this disassembly of Mika by Jason. How many times did he say "Mika did nothing wrong". "Mikas giving good racks, he's not do dadding anyone". Mika this, Mika that, instead of doing what he should have been doing, describing the pure mastery shown by Jason in his performance & give him his due instead of kissing Mikas azz from the booth, that was in poor taste.

As alluded to in an earlier post. If you watch this and CAN'T appreciate what you just viewed I find it hard to believe you're a fan of this game.

This will never happen but it really should be:
Player 1 breaks, camera takes a picture of the table. Then they play out the game.
Regardless of the outcome of that game the ref sets up the table exactly like it was after the break using the picture that was taken or some futuristic device or some sort of a projector set up above the table. Then player 2 gets a shot at that same initial post-break position. Then pool becomes a real Olympic sport instead of a lottery game.

As I said above: ALTERNATE BREAKS!
It is the future of this game.
Winner breaks is out. Alternate breaks is in.
ESPECIALLY at the pro level.
