2016 World 9-Ball Championship

That's gotta be the worst closing and awards ceremony that I've ever seen in my life for pool. Congrats to the players but shame on the producers and the promotors who have no clue what they are doing.

You gotta do it next year buddy ;)

I got up at zero dark thirty to watch the Albin-Alex match. Alex didn't play his best, but Albin was totally in stroke. Destroyed Alex.

I didn't know Shane won his semi, until I started watching this morning.

Albin looked like he was just as strong against Shane. When Shane made his errors, and gave away a couple games, I knew it would be hard for Shane to come back. Just too tough to come back, with alternate break, when your opponent is breaking so well.

Great Tournament showing by Albin, well deserved victory.

Proud of Shane for his professionalism during the match.

I missed it, but from what I can gather - Albin rode in on a horse and they both took turns on Shane.

I got up to shower when the closing ceremony started... I literally bolted out of the bathroom in a mad dash to find my mute button.

I had a lot of fun in Doha. I played well to get in finals. Apparently I ran out of gas and had a bad start in the finals. Congrats to Albin Ouschan, he played well and got the title. Fun to play in finals again, 2 years in a row. thanks to fans for all support. Next time

Ted Lerner has lost his decency, if he ever had any. This is getting more ridiculous every year. Thanks Qatar.

Next year will be last year Qatar will be hosting. I hope another country snatch it from them. Canada can go for it since the W8B did not pan out this year.

Something tells me Albin enjoyed that ceremony more than the other three guys.

First time I see Albin smile
They misspelled his and Shane's cheque extra "s" for "Thousands" :D

lol well put. Succinct but brutal, and the truth.

The other difference is the mental game. For some reason the American norm is to shake your head and shrug etc. when things don't go your way. Maybe Earl is the model. You just can't show that kind of negative body language without it affecting you. Shane is usually good enough that he gets by, but I think it got to him in the first half of this match, and that's why he lost.

Exactly. Exactly.
The best Athletes in the world get rattled all the time, but it is the coaching that dials them back in. Golfer's have their caddy, Michael Jordan had Phil Jackson, the list goes on and on.

We had a great discussion last year after the world 9-ball, when Ko spent time with his dad/coach during that crucial time out and Shane just sat in his chair and self-coached.

Here is the link for anyone who didn't read this....

We can ask again this year- what if, just what if, after last year, Shane moved to Germany for one year and trained with Ralf Eckert, or moved to the Netherlands and trained under Johan Ruijsink, or a similar situation and played Euro Tour for an entire year?

Could his safeties been tighter down the stretch?
Could his mindset been a little stronger down the stretch?
Could his fundamentals been tightened up when out of line?

We will never know so it is just specualtion - but I believe his top potential is unlimited and only a pool coach of the highest calibre can bring that out.

and of course - STOP PLAYING BAR BOX!!!!!

Unfortunately if you do not play bar box you will not earn enough money to stay afloat in this day and age of pool.

congratulations to Albin...

He played extremely well...

I do have to ask though... Has ANYONE other than Shane ever been in BTB world nineball finals?

Shane's day WILL come...

You can bet this won't happen next year, Shane will be practicing on a 12' with 4" pockets against Ronnie O'Sullivan and Earl instead of 2 weeks of bar box prior. Lol

Alex Pagulayan was runner-up in 2003, losing to Thorsten. Then won it in 2004.

And a decade later he comes in 3rd place. Beast.

Edit: Earl won it in 1990 and 1991, so that counts. Johnny Archer won in 1997 and was runner-up in 1998.
