Sure seems that way sometimes....

Schmelke makes a good playing cue for the $

"for the $?"

I don't think it's necessary to add that.

In fact, when adding that phrase, it would make a lot of big cues look bad since their playability isn't proportionate to cost.

So I'll just say Schmelke makes a good playing cue.

Admittedly, I only have one Schmelke cue. I do want another specific one, but the seller fails to respond to my communications. But the one that I have does play nicely, and it was made in 1969.

.

Just curious ....why do we compare cues.

Speaking for myself: Because it's fun! But I actually do it with the cues in hand, at the table. Other than that I don't do it, hence I usually don't participate in conversations about such things.

I see it as sort of bench racing like car guys do. I used to be a car guy too. Never liked that sort of bench racing. I liked to just just keep quiet and let the results speak for themselves. Bring a big block or don't bother coming. If it needs turbo or NOS then your motor is too small. Lots of attitude, but the pissing match is settled at the end of the race.

With pool cues, it's a little different. Nobody here really thinks they can go buy a Searing and stomp Efren Reyes just because they bought that cue. If they do think that, they are nuts.

Buy or build a really fast car and you are a lot closer to being the champ than you are by buying an expensive pool cue. Of course, in one sport you might die trying to make it come true, in the other not.

I hear that 1969 was a good year for Schmelke and it was the first year of the famous "Schmelke blank"

If you had to have one Schmelke, 1969 is the one to have for sure.

I can't disagree with that.

I happen to be very interested in a certain 1970 Schmelke cue as well. But alas, I think it has escaped....

My Magic Cue will not let anyone else make balls with it! JK, everyone has to find "their own" Magic Cue, be it a Schmelke or a Gus, whatever works best for you personally. That goes for Magic Shafts too.

I once found my "magic cue" in a South East cue I had (made by Nat Green). I so regret letting it go. I felt like I could not miss a ball or do whatever I wanted with the cue ball (to get shape or whatever) with that SE cue I had.

My crystal ball reveals to me a Southeast on ebay in the near future.
