Who is the best woman player all time

Has any woman even won a tournament that men competed in?

I hadn't heard about Siming Chen before so I watched one of her match on YT and she can definitely play. Great patterns. good composure, great ball-pocketing skills. She has it all. Definitely the best woman I have seen (haven't seen a lot of them to be fair)

But besides the break, what's the reason a woman has never won a men's tournament(if so)? Pool is not tough physically and I certainly don't think they lack to stroke power to execute any shots that the men do on a regular basis.

Karen has won a few Joss tour events ("men's" events). This is very impressive stuff. However, to win an event like that she only has to beat a few very top pros, unlike a major where there are world beaters at every turn.

Jean Balukas already won the U.S. Open before, so it has been done.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasnt that the Womens Division of the US Opens Straight Pool Championship in 1972? I was referring to an Open in which the men played agaisnt the women as well. That would be quite a feather in her cap!

I think the women should play against the men!

There should be one woman willing to fight to win one of the world tournaments that the men compete in as well! Wont anyone bank/back one? Karen has done a great job with the Joss tours. Why not one of the higher ranking womens?

I know...being just a bit sarcastic, but hopeful. Its such a pity that the women DONT compete in these event. They should just to buck the gender inequality stigma. Karen certainly does go deep for a woman. If what Rhea says is true SC should at least make the quarters, no? Hmmmmmm. I for one would likt to see that. Imagine a US Open woman champion! That might just make her the best woman player in my book.

I too would like to see more of the top women competing against the men. But being ranked about as high as the 10th best US male doesn't necessarily equate to making it to at least the quarter finals of a major. Her Fargo score would put her about 70th in the world, right around Josh Roberts and John Pinegar, or Corey or Skyler, or Dennis Hatch. All of those are terrific players, but none of them "SHOULD at least make the quarters" of a US Open of World 9b. They COULD do so, but there are lots of equally as good and better players they would have to beat to get there.

After all, look at the recent World 9b and all the great players that didn't make it out of the group stage.

At 726, Karen plays at about the same speed as my good friend Rory Hendrickson (729).

Rory just got 2nd in the US Open 8-Ball event, beating some high-level players--Thorston Hohmann, Josh Roberts, Jesse Bowman, Brandon Shuff, etc...-- along the way.

Karen and Rory are capable of beating anybody at any time, and they just might string a couple good matches together at the right time.

But both play quite a bit--more than 40 points-- below the speed of Siming Chen.

I think you're missing my point. I agree that women can play as well as men, but they dont go deep in many events. I cant recall where they've gone deep in any of the world events. The original subject was who was the best womans player in OPINION. I voted for Allison for her Record, though I am a Karen fan because she's done well in mens also events (but no world events). Differing view have morphed this conversation into one of battle of the sexes. Again, I think that women can play as good as the men, BUT they haven't gone deep as a generalization. I actually am looking forward to when they can win the most prestigeous of titles. They wont, if they dont compete in them regularly. Siming might be quite the player, and might evently match the records of her counterparts, but I cant call her the best womans player. Not to take away from any of their accomplishments. Big fish, little pond. Play in the mens events regularly. forget the money, the goal would be the title for history making.

Yeah, Currently not enough to win world titles. It might happen, but they'd have to play in more events. I think they are comfortable just playing amongst themselves. Doesn't have the ring of champion as that sounds.

Perhaps, but you have to remember that if you are a pro, then it is a business decision about risk and return. There are many male pros who don't compete in majors (or some majors) because they know they will lose a lot money doing so. Given the payouts and travel costs, and unless you've got some good sponsorship, if you don't have a good shot at placing quite high, it is just a bad investment. I don't know about any individual decision on the World 9b, but a number of top American pros seem to have chosen not to go.

Karen Corr has won 5 Joss Tour events.

And THAT is why I voted for Karen...I feel many of her Fargo points were harder come by.
...I told her once that if she played in the lady's events like she played in the men's...
...her record would have been much better...
...in the men's, she plays to win...in the lady's, she plays not to lose.

Women pro players are a bit smarter than most of the men pros. They know that the % is low that they will cash high in an open event with top men players. I have NEVER heard one single top women player say they could hang with the top men. Only ones that say that are some of us on AZB. I have been guilty of that myself, but I don't have to pay their entry fees, travel. motel or the many other monies that they would have to pay out for a roll the dice chance of cashing. Johnnyt

Best woman

Whoever it is I can guarantee you she's chinese.
I believe there's been many great europeans, brittish and american players, but none of them would stand a chance with the top chinese players that dominate today.

How many Chinese players were in those US Open fields that Fisher won? It's not just the title you win,it's about who's in the field you beat.
Jay Helfert has been in the PHI many times, and has had a chance to see the top asian players of today. He knows.

That might be true, but you have to consider the bigger picture here I think. Imagine: The best player EVER, but NEVER played against anyone, anywhere, but his home table. Can you justifiably say that he was the BEST? Apply this to the asian players. If they only compete in their "pond of fish" (Big fish, Little pond), but hardly ever competed anywhere else, can you say they are the best? That would be a hard point to prove, no? Their records against other great players needs to be taken in its entirety to make that statement. They would have to play in the bigger ponds. During their era, Allison, Karen, Jean, have played in the largest of women's events, and some of the mens (who in general are better players). The asian women have to match this effort to be considered. Again, what I'm saying is a player may actually be the best ever, BUT how can anyone justify that if that player never played against the bigger field. All this is a matter of opinion, really, and again, you need to match apples and oranges to figure if someone is the best.

Agreed that Chinese (Taipei/Taiwan ) have best women players. But Kelly Fischer has won the China Open and the Amway Cup the Two largest Chinese tournaments that ALL of the biggest names attended. Kelly Fischer is IMO greatest woman player

The role of the FargoRate daily optimization is to level out, every day, how hard to come by rating points are. The test in this video shows Karen plays the same against the men and against the women.

The problem with Jean is that she didn't stay in the arena long enough. She had a better run than anyone, but the great ones have longer careers.

With a far weaker group to fight with.

I'll pick jasmin...though she seems to have quickly lost the desire to fight.

Not very knowledgeable here. Allison's career includes many wins in Asia against Asia's best. Whether an Allison in her late forties can beat the cream of today's Asian crop is of no particular significance.

Allison Fisher is the very definition of a champion, and played her best in countless big spots. Same is true of Balukas, Corr, and Ga Young. We may say the same one day of Sha Sha Liu, Siming Chen, or Han Yu, but they haven't earned it yet, so let's reserve judgment.
