Have you ever seen (or known of) celebrities going to watch big pool events?

I am sorry if I have asked this question in the past (I can't remember if I have or not).

I understand that a lot of you guys attend (and have attended) a lot of the big pool events (probably going back a very long time).

I am just curious about big time celebrities (like anyone in the entertainment business that the average person would know the name of) that have really been a big fan of pool (in the past or present), and not only loved to play the game, but also had an interest in seeing the top pro pool players play and compete.

I think that the more celebrities that have a big interest in this sport, the better it could become.

Maybe their interest might even be big enough to want to invest their money into the sport.

Manny Pacquiao for example is a fan of pool, and I remember that he help a big pro tournament in the Philippines.

That is not really why I am asking about celebrities (that are or have been into pool) though.

I am just curious about celebrities that may have had a big interest in the sport of pool (in the past or present time).

Thanks in advance for posting names of any celebrities (and any interesting stories about them, and their connection to pool) that you have known to have a more then average interest in the sport of pool.

Kiefer Sutherland used to stakehorse Moro Paez. He's a sore loser as well.

Twenty years ago it was nothing to see movie and TV stars, and stars from all types of spots at some of the NYC rooms. I'm sure the same thing was happening in CA. Jay Helfert can tell us who use to play out there.

PS: Joe Pepitone (1st baseman for NY Yankees)showed me his gun while playing him in Brooklyn. I showed him mine and he lost one more game, paid me and out the door he went. He was a real a$$hole. Johnnyt

CJ has good info on this subject. He just showed a pic of him and Paul Sorvino at some tourney somewhere and supposedly he was a big fan of the game.

Sorvino played out of Amsterdam's in NYC, as did many more stars. Johnnyt

Then there was the story about Pesci and the crew from the movie casino. I know that had to do with a golf course but didn't it have some pool component as well?

I don't remember it...like too many other things lately. Johnnyt

That guy had so much talent but nightlife and drugs kept him from being one of the all time greats. Federal pen and his humiliating loss to you didn't help either.

I have a few AccuStats videos where the guitarist from Great White was there (he was a known pool junkie), and another were Debbie Gibson was there with one of the Backstreet boys or someone from one of those boy bands. That may have been during the IPT era. I'm pretty sure a lot of the known pool player celebrities like Jerry Aurbach and others would go to events, but I don't know of confirmed sightings or which events.

Artie Lange often references that he loves pool, but I doubt he'd ever bet on the game or attend a tournament. Too busy with the Yankees and Giants.

Famous celebrity players

do not forget Jackie Gleason also former great Cubs manager Leo Derocher was a big money player. Also, former Angels pitcher Bo Belinsky from the 1960's was a NJ pool hustler prior to making the major leagues.

On one of the walls at Amsterdam Billiards there is a large framed photo of Jerry Seinfeld sweating a tournament sometime in the late 90's or early 2000's, back when the room(s) were still uptown.

Joe Rogan is definitely a big fan of the game and a pretty darned good player. I also know he has a solid collection of cues (Cognoscenti, Capone, Szamboti, ebony/ebony SW, stuff like that). As I recall from what I've seen, he tends to be a big fan of ebony/ivory/silver in his cues. He also has an account here.

As mentioned in a thread here some time ago on the same subject, Michael Vartan (the male lead in Alias) is reported to be a solid player.

That is very interesting, but did you mean that Kiefer was the sore loser, or the player that he was backing? That is really cool though, that Kiefer is (or was) a fan of pool.

Wow, that is really cool that you gambled with a major league baseball player.
