Can someone explain shot to me?

I think my idea that he was just trying to go 2 rails to the 5 makes a lot more sense. Did Mike actually say he was playing the 8 afterwards? I can't imagine it was anything more than Mike being sarcastic.

I'll say it again, IMHO he intended to put that 8 ball right into that corner pocket ...AND HE DID IT! He's Mike Siegel. He ain't no ordinary banger! He saw that there was no way of pocketing that first ball and getting position on the next ball. He then saw a set up for a shot that if made, people would be talking about YEARS later! ( This thread is proof of that!)
When bangers like Siegel, who stray from the ordinary by a distance measured in galaxies, see a shot llike that open up in front of them, they sometimes can see their pool god's scampering away after having set it up! It's a reward doled out by the god's for years of fine practice and fine service to the game.

Once again, IMHO, Siegel ain't no ordinary banger. When the god's set 'em up like that for him, HE DON'T MISS 'EM!

Yo Elroy. The op put the wrong time in his post. It was 56:40. That shot required some serious juice to get the cue ball where he wanted it.

I have played a few events with him over te past few years and in addition to being a tuff dra, he aint no pleasure to have around, sorry to say.

I don't know the man personally but I have always enjoyed watching him play pool and I'd love to see him make a comeback but I'm sure he has good reasons why he no longer competes.

Would like to see a comeback also....so I could root against him:D

And once again, no he didn't! You live in dreamland.

If he makes both, he has no shot on the next ball......NEVERMIND you'll never "get" it.

I'm having a tough time with the color of the balls on my iPad. I guess it's been decided the 8 went in. So if he shoots the first ball in, the next one is the one near the spot. How does he get in position for it? He's Mike Siegel, for God's sake. Did he just have a brain cramp? He can see the angle better than we can; therefore, I'll assume there was nothing he could have done to get in position for the "ball near the spot" into the 9 ball combo.

He hits the CB with center and stops right there off the ball he made(8) and shoots a 5-9 combo. He could also play safe and freeze to back of whatever ball he made.

Not sure if he could draw to side rail and back across and shoot next ball into opposite corner of 9.

He was trying to follow and either swing around the 8 to the left with high right 2 rails to get on the 5, or just straight follow to miss the 8 entirely (or maybe even hit it and power through it), again 2 rails.

Notice that he undercut it. If he had actually made the ball, the cue ball would have swung more to the left, and I think the plan was to miss the 8 entirely, or just clip it at the most.

Probably would have been better to just roll the 4, let the CB carom off the right side of the 8, and take the long shot. Could have even drawn back off the 8 and shot the 5/9 combo, or even the 5 in the side if he could avoid the scratch. Hey, Sigel isn't perfect either. Gotta take the shot that looks best to you when you're at the table.

What you say is plausible. There's no point going for the combo unless it's straight or close to it. Not being able to see the angle the way he's seeing it makes it impossible to judge for sure. I think though, even if he could " Get" the straight combo, he wouldn't go for it. I think he'd willingly leave himself out of position and possibly sacrifice a single game in order to make a "High reel shot" for the decades.

I'll say it again... HE'S MIKE SIGEL! He knew he could make those 2 balls pretty much hug each other all the way down to the short rail. He knew he could make one follow the other to the left of the other. He knew if he did this absolutely perfectly, the 8 ball would come off the rail and the ball behind and to the left of would send it into the corner pocket!

I'm thinking if he sets this up 100 times he makes it once; but he's Mike Sigel. Every now and then, guys of his caliber discard the odds and PULL RABBITS OUT OF THEIR HAT! IMHO, he knew exactly what he wanted to do and how he wanted to do it.......and he did it precisely as planned! It was a stunningly perfectly executed shot!......IMHO, of course!

Yet he couldn't make the 4 in the corner? Or did he deliberately miss the 4 to pull off the trick shot? Obviously, if the 4 goes in the cue ball goes somewhere else and the 8 doesn't go anymore. I'm sincerely trying to help, but I kind of feel like I'm being trolled, to be honest.

When writing of the shot, I used the letters IMHO. Ugh...this means, "In my humble opinion." So you're trying to help me? I guess this now means my opinion is so crazy, while at first you thought it possible I was the benevolent crazy type, my refusal to accept your efforts toward my reform disavows you from thinking " Benevolence" and tosses me into the " Troll crazy" bin!

So my opinion'scrazy? Read post #8 again.
Pool Bum: " Sigel missed the ball he was trying to pocket and slopped in the 8 ball."
Ghost Ball: "Sigel disagrees. agrees on missed primary ball, but backup ball executed as planned.

........So is Ghost Ball lying about reading or hearing this or is Sigel? If Sigel was lying wouldn't his fellow pro's have noticed and talked about how no one could make such a shot deliberately. Does Sigel have a reputation for granting himself undeserved grandiosity?

It's true that if Sigel had made the 4 ball it would have changed the path of the cue ball and he wouldn't have made the 8. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, while Sigel claims making the 4 was his first priority, when he got down and saw how "Juicy" the backup plan was, he ( maybe subconsciously) switched his main focus to the backup plan. He sacrificed the 4 ball in order to make the 8.

So why would he deliberately choose to switch from choosing a shot he can make 9 out of 10 times, to one he can only make 1 out of 100 times? IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, at that moment, HE JUST KNEW he was gonna make it! He knew they'd be watching and talking about it 20 years later. So how did he just know he was gonna make it. Well...every now and then, that feeling just comes over players as good as Mike Sigel! ..........IN MY HUMBLE OPINION!

You have just proved one of two things here, or maybe even both. Either you just proved all you do here is troll, or you proved just how very little you actually know about pool. Or both. ANYONE that thinks what you posted is true, you have 50 shots to shoot it. You don't even have to actually make it, just come close. Show me the video of your attempts.

Man, Turkey has us trolling. I mean, a force follow shot, which pushes the eight ball

precisely to the end rail, middle of the end rail, to double kiss it in the corner. I call BS.

No, I call TC! TurkeyComa. You overdosed on it today if you actually believe this was the

shot. He might of been trying the eight in that corner, but in no means did he 'plan' a double

kiss to do it. #Thanksgiving

No way he tried to do this. The shot was fairly tough, and he wanted to hit it firm with a good stroke and elevating the cue was not a good option on such a difficult shot. No doubt the 8 was on his mind. I actually think it distracted him to the point of missing his shot. He needed a nice, full collision to control both the cueball and the 8 and it caused him to take his eye off the object ball.

The risk was hitting the 8 on the side and getting the cueball close to scratching or on the rail or maybe get the 8 in the way of the ball on the left side. I figure he thought, as long as he hit it really full in the face it would help control both balls. Since he was hitting with topspin(being close to the rail) he needed to hit the shot hard to make the cueball glance off the first object ball. That was the only way to hit the 8 full and still make the shot, without having to elevate.

Shaw drills this shot in and draws off the 8 and comes 2 rails to be perfect on the 5. Nuff said, drops mic, fade to black.

Lots of topspin. This sort of thing happens a lot in straightpool, when you go into a loose pack with power and topspin. The cueball hits a ball that takes away it's momentum, but the topspin remains, which often leads to the cueball pushing a ball out of the pack in this manner. The video was a rather extreme example, but it's not uncommon to see this happen. The reason why it happened in the video was that the cueball lost most of it's forward momentum on impact with the object ball. It had lots of topspin on it, but did not have time to pick up speed before hitting the second object ball. The cueball was still accellerating at that time, because it had "overspin", which meant it could push the object ball in front of it without loosing contact, instead of impacting it and pushing it away. Overspin means that the cueball have more forward "rotation" than naturally rolling cueballs.

Most A players would have done the same thing you mentioned. Sigel knew he was shooting it wrong which is why he got up off the shot. He had plenty of room to put some draw on it without jacking way up.

I believe he thought he was going to hit the 8 a little less full than he did, and then the cb would have followed to the right side end of the table and then come back down for the 5 into the pocket he was standing over. He misjudged the carom angle off the 4 because he didn't look at it close enough. No matter how could one gets, they still make mistakes at times.

Is it a mistake if you get out? An adage I grew up with is 'Its only slop if you don't get out.'

Funny as it is, we all have lost to a shot like this, and if only one ball is 'slopped in' during

a game, your opponent still made 8 shots he tried.
