Points Too Far Forward

Up and down points is a style that's catching on!?
LOLZ
If it's not for you I get that, but really they've been making cues like this as long as I know of

I wasn't aware it was a cue phad

Yes really catching on! What was old is now new again!

Iv'e never met anybody that didn't like the hit of a Ted Harris
Jason

Ted Harris installed my first Moori on my Szamboti...middle 90s....
...he let me try the Moori on his sneaky pete for a while....
...I tried to buy it....cue hit great...no dice, though.

Well let me introduce myself to ya then ,, I like Ted he was up here for yrs I've hit many of his cues not a big fan part might be his shafts ,

Back to points I like full splice points no wrap the woods and joint then make up the balance so it's tricky getting the balance and weight right ,on cues with a wrap the A bolt gives it different balance on cues with that you can get a sleved over ivory joint my personal favorite,,
Then you got a cored sleeved over structural points cue ,like black boar this allows the cue to have ebony keep the weight down and gives a good feed back hit hard to beat the hit or a Boar
Next would be recut points their structural also there married into the forearm and depending on wood give a different balance and hit
My last choice is inlaid points and most long points are just that any cue with inlaid points simply is lipstick on plan Jane they have zero effect on how the cue plays

I know that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but, to me, the points on a cue don't look right when they are pushed up right next to the joint collar.

I know the reasons why this is done sometimes (blank too thin, weight distribution, etc.), but it is not visually appealing to me. I know some people who think it actually looks better because more of the points can be seen when wraps are used.

I guess you can call me old-school, because I like the way cues looked when the points weren't so far up. Which do you prefer? Or does it matter to you?

Sorry Mr. Eye, I do not call your fetish 'old school'..I call it OCD, or just totally insignificant! ....When you find a cue with good playability and a great hit (which is rare enough)..why would anyone care if they run the points clear up into the shaft?

"Visually appealing" should be the dead last criteria, for finding a top quality cue!..I am surprised you found over two people who thought it was important enough to even elaborate on!..Has AZB really become that boring?..No wonder there are so many silly 'tip' and 'wrap' threads!

This is about as far forward as I like points on my cue.

The top cue is my Titlist conversion done by Mike Pancerny. I had it made to match the look of the original Balabushka Titlist conversion at the bottom.

My first test for buying a cue is to hold where I would hold the butt normally to shoot.....

...and I tap it against my bridge hand about eight inches below the joint.....

...if I don't feel the cue tremble all the way to my hand holding the butt...don't want it.

You're only the 3rd person I ever heard describe this "acid test" but it's one of the truest measures I've been shown to determine a cue with exceptional feedback. I'd give you a greenie but I need to spread it around, so instead I tip my hat to you.

Quit your whining' and post something worthwhile then. It was important enough for you to make a comment, wasn't it? I'm sure nobody as important as a supposed HOF player wastes his time posting in insignificant threads. I figured they'd spend all their time at something they were experts in...like teaching people one pocket on onepocket.org. Whoops, I forgot...you still banned from there?

Every cue I own hits good and all my cues are top quality. They aren't all custom and big name, but they play well.

I have played with enough cues to know what will usually play well and if I have the opportunity to play with a cue before I buy it, all the better.

I don't like them too long either. On a full splice, I like the points to meet the wrap either right where they connect or for a tiny bit of the base splice to show. the points on my Ingram Oak Titlist are the ideal length for me.

Calm down Mr. Eye..I only responded to point out what a silly topic it was!..It looks like anyone with your self-proclaimed outstanding knowledge of cuesticks, could find something more in depth to comment on, than the 'look' he prefers! :o

I agree, I've seen points that almost touch the joint collar and I don't care for the look. I prefer more classic proportions.

I suppose one pocket is a more in-depth subject that you'd prefer to talk about. There is another whole site dedicated to just that. If they wouldn't have booted you out of it, , maybe you wouldn't be stuck over here with all the boring subjects.

Somebody starts a thread on 9-ball and you don't like it. Somebody starts a thread on tips or something and you don't like it. Somebody starts a thread on WWYD and you don't like it.

What exactly do you like? Start a thread and enlighten us on something.

I've got an idea. Give us a detailed story on how a one-pocket HOF guy got booted out of the one-pocket site that got him in the HOF.

How unpleasant.

He never said whether it was the first or last point to consider anyway.

Why did you bother to comment?

HOF?

Wow. I am completely unimpressed. Seems pretty ignorant actually.

I have done that several times!..You choose to ignore it, so you can continue to beat it to death with your very limited field of knowledge!..As for how I wound up in the HOF, maybe you should spend a little time researching how Ronnie Allen and I matched up, for over 50 yrs.

I comment positively on a lot of different subjects..It is just yours that I find so incredibly bragadocious, and boring! (not my fault)..Please tell us again, how many thousands you made playing pool in grade school!

His points and inlaid points are not even in the same Galaxy!

With that said, I have had him turn my shafts down and give a pro taper (18"+) people seem to like it either way.

Not arguing with you cause I know without a doubt everybody likes something different:thumbup: most like his cues though.

I would much rather have long than short though. I

Aside from appreciation of an antique, som of those old titlists (blalablukla?) are silly, with their fat stubs fo4 points.

I am sure we all agree that perfect is best?

FWIW, I really don't care if the points are "perfect", if that is what you are meaning.

Assuming both cues played the same, I'd take a cue with imperfect points that looked old-school over a cue with extended points to the collar that were perfect.

Who's you talking about , and I'm not arguing I'm pointing out the difference not all are the same that's all I'm pointing out
There's a big difference it points some being just looks others are looks weight and structure of the build of the cue
