Unless it uses fluorescent tubes..... Then no dimmer... Fluorescent lamps cannot be simply added to the same type of dimming switches as incandescent or halogen lamps. In order for a fluorescent lamp to continue to function properly, the cathodes must be heated to a minimum level in order to maintain an arc in the tube. Using a fluorescent lamp on an incandescent dimming switch, the reduction of power would lead to a reduction in cathode temperature, and therefore a loss of arc.

I like led's if used with a diffuser like the diamond lights. Without the diffuser some shots may seem to bright looking on long shots, like no window shade at a bar.
 
If using fluorescent or LED lighting, be sure to use a color temperature below 4000 degK. And with the highest CRI (color rendering index) as possible (above 90 CRI).

I have a similar light fixture over my table. I was not that thrilled with the LED type bulbs that I tried in this configuration. They put out light in an uneven pattern on the table. There was a bright spot directly under the bulb surrounded by a ring of less illumination. I ended up using the CFL style bulbs. They don't need much time time get up to full brightness as they did in the past and the light is very even. I went with the daylight spectrum and I will say that I'm pleased. looks very nice with the Simonis Tournament Blue.

No more than any other incandescent light of similar wattage...but yeah, more heat than LED or fluorescent, I'm sure...

Here at home, before the law change, we stockpiled lots of incandescent bulbs...something in flourescents trigger my wife's migraine headaches.

They are a sponsor for Turning Stone and the light looks impressive. I think their lights are being used for the tournament but I think they are also very expensive.

Bulbs don't really cost that much. Try a few different types and use what you feel comfortable with. I wouldn't recommend those old style spiral fluorescent bulbs. They now make some fairly reasonable LED bulbs that I would start with that are day light in color.

We did check them out, way more than what we wanted to spend. For $140 shipped I love our lights!
