What made you decide to get a new cue.

I'm curious as to what made you decide to get a new cue. Not your first cue, a new one.

Did you lose confidence in a cue you used to like?

Just want something w better looks/construction?

Did you think you would play better?

Trying to retire my old Joss made me do it.

Many cues later....:rolleyes::D

It's still my best cue, but my primary player is a 1981 Huebler now.

But brand new? I think the only brand new cue I ever got was a gift from my wife. I don't think I ever bought one brand new....:frown:

My first cue was 20 oz , steel joint, old school pro taper. I played pretty well with it, but I didn't like the sound it made. When I put a Meucci in my hands, I like the way the taper went through my hand, and definitely liked the sound better, so I bought one to become my main player.

Several years later, I shot with a few people's cues and found a great difference across the board in terms of feel. When I shot with a Schuler for the first time with a pro taper, it felt perfect in terms of muted vibration. So, I bought one. That's been my main player for 20 years now.

I've never bought a cue thinking that it would make me play better in of itself. But the Meucci and then the Schuler fit me better, so I shot better with them.

I only had 19 cues and I needed to be on an even number to satisfy my OCD.

Wanted a cue made for me, to my specs, that looks the way I want. Never expected it to make me play better and my previous cues played great. But I do love my custom cue, it's exactly what I've always wanted and there is something to be said for that. It's been 15 months since I got it and I still get excited by it every time I pull it from my case. And I no longer look lustfully at other cues. Feeling perfect contentment with the stick in your hand is a great feeling.

After buying quite a few custom cues, I eventually figured out that I prefer:
1) Steel joint
2) Leather wrap
3) Black ferrules
4) 20.5 ounces
5) Regular maple shafts
6) Cues that aren't too expensive to bring to bars -- where I play leagues. (No more than around $1000 each).

So even though I had >10 cues, many of which were customs, I bought 2 Schon cues last year to meet the above criteria and had Black Juma ferrules installed on 3 shafts, where I then installed Elkmaster tips.

To me, I now have the perfect playing cues that I won't get too upset about if they get banged up or stolen in the bars.

Lol, what bar do you play at?

I haven't bought a cue in years. I've considered on many occasions getting a one piece snooker cue. I like the way they feel and the case for them is only marginally more cumbersome than a 3/4 joint case.

But I generally stop myself since my pool and snooker cues work fine. I've also considered a stiffer shaft for my pool cue. The years of playing with my ash snooker cue have made my 314 shaft feel like I'm playing with a sponge.

I like cues, figured I'd try a few. Never bought one because I thought that I'd play better. Started with $100 Viking, then McDermott, Pechauer, Joss, Schon and Jacoby. Player is a Frey sneaky, backup is an Omen sneaky. My car cue is a Lucky cue and it feels all right to me, roll and all.
