I only said that because I understand all the bad that alcohol has caused, and will always cause, as long as it is around. Look at how many people have died due to alcohol. Look at all the bad things (in the past) that it has caused. It is poison, for the body, and the mind. Reminds me of maybe the greatest pool player of all time, Ralph Greenleaf. I think I remember reading that alcohol really messed him up.

Sorry Jistin, I don't bu this argument at all I'll definitely concede that alcohol is at the root of many problems that arise, in the pool room too but I wholeheartedlyrics believe and look at it the same way as I do with firearms. Firearms don't kill peiple, peop, email kill people. In the hands of a responsible person, nothing bad will ever happen. Alcohol is the exact same thing as far as I'm concerned. But I am now POSITIVE, you MUST BE THEORY life of the party at all times!!! Lololol😉

I seriously doubt that it will, but wouldnot it be some kind of Karma if the determination for the last Mosconi Cup Spot assigned by points came down to just a couple that would have been effected by Derby points!

The guys who junk he grabbed should have " held him accountable " right there on the spot. Don't know who up he is but very surprised he did nothe - English or no English.

I believe Mike D. did smack Shaw around a few times, and if so that may be why he got barred.
I think that's totally wrong if the case, my feeling is he should have every right to defend himself for that

P.S.--- I'm not certain but I'd bet on it, I think he smacked him around

lmao...accurate analogy?

The right to defend yourself once someone puts hands on you, not the specifics as they could be 1000 different with 1000 different people. Bottom line; I believe ( as I'm guessing most do ) that the first person to lay hands on some one is the aggressor and the first person to have hands layer upon them is the victim and everything going forward from there should be treated as such. Do you disagree with this ?

when does defense cross the line to aggression, battery or worse?

be prepared to do the time if you do the crime

Yes, I get what you are saying but I will tell you this with 1000% certainty ; and you may or may not have been thru this or something very similar to it, it all happens so fast you do not have time to think at all. For the one and only thing that flashed in my mind was " this guy is trying to gut me and trying to kill me. Can't imagine thinking anything other than that. Simultaneously ; while this is happening and all in a tiny fraction of a second that Fight or Flight instinct that is engrained in every single living human kicks in. Once again; all within a tiny fraction of a second your mind makes that decision for you without any thought whatsoever. As it turns out I suppose I just wasn't wired for flight, or at least not this time.

As to the legalities of it : as I mentioned earlier the laws governing this vary widely between jurisdiction to jurisdiction but I can assure you this was not on my mind lol. One thing that is pretty standard that is fairly common though is only exerting enough force to quell the force exerted upon you ( just enough to be able to stop the threat ). Once more, not something I would have been thinking about. Since I've mentioned " what I would be thinking about " a few times now that is also worth mentioning. The law does in fact take what you're " reasonable state of mind " was at the immediate time of the incident and in some cases what leads up to it. It does not allow though for you to put the threat down " and go back for some more " That is usually the point at which it becomes criminal. Another key distinction is " what is reasonable "? In a scenario where the other person is the aggressor and is coming at you with a confirmed deadly weapon that term " reasonable " can become pretty broad.

Now, the only reason I brought this up this evening is because folks are speculating as to why Mike was kicked out of the tournament AND ( barred for life ??????) and Jason was not???? so I offered this up as a plausible explanation of what might have happened - that's all. I do hope we all get the full story on what happened. ( I'm confident we will, we pretty much always do)

As to your opinion on this, I get what you're saying and you're certainly entitled to whatever opinion you so choose. Pretty sure sometime in the past we've had at least one if not more similar conversation, and I'd bet dollars to donuts it all started with two pros getting in a fight with one another ( which is usually the case and I can think of quite a few just last year lol. Hate to LOL, but it is what it is and a real pool room ain't for no place for pansies!) I'll leave you with one more thought. All of us boys in the family have been taught by our great-grandads, grandads, as well as our old man from a very young age that " it is ALWAYS better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6 "! At least worst comes to worst you still have breathing chance. I find it REAL REAL hard to argue against that logic. Have a great night sir !

First, let me start by congratulating Jason Shaw for standing up and being a man and apologizin in public. Beyond that I am a little Co fused and know that I ( we ) all ,is sing a big part of the story. The reason I say this is because obviously this all unfolded on tape in great detail and Mike Delaware in fact is the one barred from Horeshoe ( supposedly for life ? ??? ) and NOT Jason Shaw ( not even for the night????) That right there " should " tell us this guy Mike was the aggressor and Jason was the victim just defending himself ( hell, who knows, maybe they have a self defense course across the pond for the ladies that specializes their attackers by " grabbing their junk "???? Who knows ) .

So my question is other than some type of PR move, what could Jason possibly apologizin for ?While certainly not identical and should not be used in a serious discussion for legal defense, the idea is the same as the law describing " self - denose " Paraphrasing but basically only using the minimal amount of force to stop the aggressor ; aggressive action and nothing more. For instance if they were passing by one another and this guy purposely bumps into Jason, Jason can not unload 17 caps into this guy lol. ( This of course varies widely from jurisdiction to jurisdiction . Does anyone have the full, accurate account of what EXACTLY transpired ?

Quockly, this reminds me of something that happened to me in a pool roomy once. I was 16, my home pool room which I was in literally ever day was Running Out Billiards over in Dundalk. I got in action with Dirt Ball John. Dirt Ball John had a hot girlfriend that I liked and she liked me. He was like 19 or so. I pretty sure this was his motivation to play me. Anyway, I busted him out for his whopping $100 bucks , while the WHO time his girl was talking and overtly flirting with me throughout the wholeft matcn. Upon comp, etiology he WAS NOT HAPPY. OH WELL. He started getting loud and eventually so did I cause you just can't let everyone see someone talking to you any old kinda way. The houseman told us to take it " outside ". I am 100% positive he did not mean to fight, but rather to have our " discussion. Well exactly one step outside the door to the pool room he pulled his blade on me. As soon as someone pulls a weapon on you a light switch simultaneously gets flipped ( as it should EVERY TIME ) and now I think " this guy is trying to kill me " !!!.

So automatically I go into self preservation mode. I immediately disarmed him. I them proceeded to beat him till he moved no more. When the cops came I refused to make any statememts. Between videos and witness statements I was not charged --- clearly self defense. I'm guessing this is what must have happened with Shaw and Mike. We BOTH received being barred for LIFE because fighting was a zero tolerance at this establishment , regardless of self defense, did not matter. Luckily for me I both knew the right people AND most importantly they like me lold and could not stand Dirt Ball John 😊 I do think maybe something along these lines went down .

And your assumption would be wrong. This is all totally on Jason. Mike got wronged twice

Boy that sucks then! I made it clear throughout the thread my statementson were based off of the info that we have been given in it. I also made no definite statements , leaving them open ended as I wasnt was not there and also ending many sentences with multiple ??????'s. I a
so mentioned I'm sure they have the whole thing on a good tape that would tell the real story. So Cookie, if you ha email the straight scoop fill us in so we know what actually happened. Thanks. But yeah if Mike got screwed lie that, that really does suckered big time! Only reason I could think of is because of what " star power " cause he's been hot? Either way, nothing really surprises me anymore nor has it for a very long time lol.

Today in the news "Scottish guy gets drunk and rowdy" , up next " The Sun may disappear from view later in the day".

I personally feel more creeped out that SVB is dating a kid that he knew since she was 16 or so than Jayson or another player getting drunk and being an ass to someone. I've seen team-mates in league drink and almost get into a fight over what shot to take LOL

Cultural Thing

It's pretty obvious that -in addition to grabbing other dude's junk- oversleeping matches is also a cultural thing.

Ummmmm, Ditto

I have a knife story for you bmore

Years ago I was a Forman for a utility company. An employee was giving mw some flack and I told him to take it was with the big boss..well he proceeds to fo in the office and apparently the big guy did not want to hear his shit either and fired him.

Meanwhile I am outside checking out my truck before we leave the compound. Next thing I know the fired employee blindsides me smacking mw upside the head with a steel hard hat yelling I caused him to get fired.

It stuns mw momentarily and instinctively I start backing up between my truck and the onw beside it as he grabs a knife out of his pocket and starts swinging at me like Zorro.

I am kicking at him trying to keep.him off me while at the same time reaching in the back of the truck for something to defend myself with.I latch onto a pick handle and when I get it over the bed of the truck and he sees it he makes like usain bolt out of the compound.no way I could catch him.

Luckily my reflexes were quick enough I only had a 6 minor cuts across my chest and stomach but the front of my shirt looked like it got caught in a meat grinder.

So he is arrested and charged with assault and battery. 2 things about the trial pissed mw off.

1. His defense was I was a racist.several co workers who were African Americans testified i was the least racist person they knew. A few testified that they had been at my house several times partying and that I had been at theirs doing the same. One testified that we were bed buddies who played on a traveling softball team and always roomed together. So his racist defense went out the window.

2. His lawyer kept grilling me about the pick handle. He asked me a half a dozen times...wording it differently each time if I has hit the ex employee with the pick handle .

I replied no every time . He asked why I never hit him . I replied because I could not catch his ass. That brought laughter from the audience in the court room. The last time he asked me if I had hit him got to me and I said no...if I had managed to hit him he would not be here for you to defend his ass. That brought the quite a bit of laughter from the court room.

Bottom line ...he received 90 days in jail and a years probation. While in jail hw assaulted another inmate and received 3 years in prison. Guess the inmates life was more valuable than mine and he earned a stiffer sentence for that .

Did something similar happen to Hatch after Mosconi cup few years back?

Actually, it happened to me. 2013. Euro's had won the Cup earlier that day. It was Colonel Mustard with a candlestick in the Beatles Revolution Lounge of MGM. Shortly thereafter, when Karl said to Hatch "I'm a champ & you're a chump", things got a bit uglier.

I wasn't overly offended by the multiple "English culture" crotch grabs by him - he did it with a smile, lol. I'd guess it was a strange way to pay a compliment. Eliminate any thoughts of sexual intent, please. I was taken aback for sure, but there's bigger fish to fry.

Didn't this guy kicked out of the Joss tour just a few months ago? ...now he gets banned or almost banned from another tournament for being an idiot.

Stop defending the guy ship him back.

Has Shaw said anything on FB? Usually he's a FB drama queen.

Missed his shot at winning upwards to $16K.

How did I miss this thread? Pool world is such a special place.

And it appears to me that all the Facebook posts have been deleted -- imagine that.
