I saw on SVB's FB last night that he broke the shaft he has played with since 2009, a Cuetech R360, while practicing some "crazy shots" right before his finals match. I couldn't get the pics to load, but it snapped at the junction of the shaft/tenon. That could also explain why he appeared a little "off" in his next round.

I thought it was interesting to see what he plays with. Prior to 2009 it was a Joss shaft in a Schon butt, from what I understand.
 
He definitely wasn't making an excuse. Here's his Facebook post:

It was a fun trip in derby. During the middle of the week, I was practicing hitting balls and doing some crazy shots, then my tip/ferrule snapped. I don't think it can be fixed. ��Since 2009, This Cuetec shaft was my friend on the table. We made over 1million, won 4 US open, 2 world pool masters, 2 runner up in the world championship. And many other titles. Definitely the best shaft in the world. Rest in piece r360shaft��
During the middle of the event, I pulled out my spare shaft, played hours with it. I played well to get in the finals in the 9 ball event and lost to Dennis.
Congrats to Dennis, jayson shaw, busty and my good friend Billy Thorpe.
It was a fun week, met some new people and looking forward to come back next year����

The difference between pool players and puppies, is that puppies stop whining and start woofing, pool players stop woofing and start whining.
 
He's always been a nice, kind guy. The photos were sad...I'd hate that on my Schon shaft, let alone one I'd won a mill with.
 
I cant believe he doesnt have a quiver full of shafts that he likes and can use without a noticable performance difference.
 
Great example!

Shane is a great example of what a pro pool player should be like. Not only has he proven to be one of the worlds best cueists, he has also displayed a professional approach to the business he is in.

If the pro ranks were full of players like him, pool might eventually make it to the Olympics.

If I get one of those shafts fitted to one of my Diveney cues will I shoot like Shane?

Possibly.. He does appear to be a stand up guy. I watched a facebook video of him from the DCC playing this old man who had no idea who he was. It was pretty funny.
 
He also said he had another shafts that he played with, so it's not like he didn't have a back up r360. He just said he was said the shafts broke because he won over 1 million with it. Don't think he was making an excuse he was just upset it broke after winning that much with it.

I also saw that video. How did you know the old man had no idea who Shane was? (It's entirely possible someone says it during the video but I didn't notice or recall it)

At the start of the video a guy that knew the player said that he said he said he was playing on table 4, but couldn't remember the guy's (SVB) name that he was playing.

Pretty funny video!

I know you are trying to be funny but lets use this analogy

People dont buy air jordons expecting to play like Michael....they but the because he markets them. Or any other products pros endorse for that matter.

Cuetec happens to sponsor the bed played in America and most fans make fun of their products.. No one who buys a cue Tec because they think it will make then play like Shane. They just might be buying it to support the company he endorses. Nah ...that would be too much to expect from pool players wouldn't it ?

EXACTLY why I play with one. I know theres better cues brands shafts.. I support that they support Shane.
 
Toooo funnnny!

Laughed my butt off. That guy doesn't look much older then me, but we sure have different styles. He won more games then I probably would of won.

Shane looked like he was trying not to crack up!
