I have never had a tip deteriorate. I have seen deteriorated tips, so apparently it happens, but it's never happened in my shop. I don't store tips any special way, and have had some for a very long time.
I keep my tips in a tipidor. Leather, like wood, is happiest with some humidity when any long term storage is involved.

I currently have boxes of 15mm Elkmasters, Lepro's and Triangle' in a vacuum sealed bag (via foodsaver)...guess that's a bad idea, since they can't "breathe"?40-45% ....
Do you think the coating has anything to do with preservation?
