Earl sez....I can't believe anybody voted against me....
...the poll should be 87 trillion to zilch in my favor....

I voted yes. I think having him on the team gives it a dimension that is a little lacking in the younger pros. Not taking anything away from them at all, but there is a gamesmanship and charisma that seems to be missing in the younger generation so far.

For all of Earl's antics, he brings his heart and soul every match. I think that sets a good example for some of the other players.

I see the Mosconi Cup as a form of entertainment. I'd take Earl any day over one of those European robots. Not only is he ten times more fun to watch and root for, but he's still capable of shutting out any of those guys!

GO EARL!

Coming from a veteran pool aficionado. Right on, Sixpack! You know what time of day it is! Team USA needs exactly what you described! :)

Heck, yeah. I agree. When Earl enters the pit, those robots will be shaking in their boots. :D

Too many Earl nostalgists voting I think. Earl doesn't have a place on this team. Too volatile. Is it entertaining when he throws his little tantrums? I guess, sometimes. But I'd rather see USA win than watch another Earl mini-fit. And you know it'll happen eventually and bring the entire team demeanor down. A bad roll hill-hill, an audience member saying something. Just leave him off, please.

usa, all the way -- with earl at the helm!

Earl Strickland was a dominant player during the 1980s and 1990s, and continues to be so today. He currently holds over 100 tournament titles and has been named “Player of the Year” five times. He won the Akron Open nine times and the US Open 9-Ball Championship five times: 1984, 1987, 1993, 1997 and 2000. He has won the World 9-Ball Championship six times: 1984, ‘88, ‘90, ‘91, ‘94 and 2002. He most recently won the World Pool Masters Trick Shot Challenge in 2003. In addition to his individual championships, he has been a team member on nine winning U.S. Mosconi Cup teams, including 2005, and was captain in two of those years. He's also a Hall of Famer and once ran 11 racks in 9-ball for one million dollars.

If ur gonna post Earl's history...post it all and not just a small piece...

I guess the real question is, do you want the US to win or continue losing?
Play the strongest players if you want to win and I'd say that there aren't many Americans that can beat The Pearl when the nuts are on the line, which is another problem in an of itself.

Let's see how he does in Raleigh this week. I think the hiatus Earl has taken in recent months has improved his game and outlook on pool. That's the only reason I'm promoting him for the upcoming Cup. We need an Earl Strickland in the mix. He always gives 100 percent of himself in every tournament. He's not there to get screwed, get high, get drunk, go sightseeing, and entertain a family. His mission is to win for USA.
Just my opinion. :)

Jam, you're right and I agree 100%. However, the underlying message is kinda sad though.

But when you insinuate that many of the USA Mosconi players 'screw whores', 'get high', and 'gamble all night', it is perfectly okay.

.

That's EXACTLY what Vegas is there for, isn't it?

I don't think Vegas distractions should be engaged in while the players are in progress of a pool tournament. After the tournament concludes, everybody is on their own to do as they please. But when you're getting paid to be in a tournament by Matchroom Sport, win or lose, to give it your all, like Earl does, you should be there 100 percent -- not out sightseeing, not out gambling, not out drinking, not going to brothels.

The point is Earl does give 100 percent. Some players seem to show up as if they're tourists in Vegas and act like Vegas tourists. That's okay, but, again, not while you're in competition. Team Europe doesn't do that. They stick together in unison the entire Cup.

EARL might miss but he doesn't rattle and NO one is more driven to win

some may end up with more "points" but they can't bring his jock to a BIG game

What he did 30 yrs ago is irrelevant to the conversation ,, today's speed is all that matters
He's not a top 5 player by any stretch of the imagination

I understand what you mean. Earl recently took a hiatus from pool and had not been playing as much as he used to. He's back.

Watch him and the other Mosconi Cup hopefuls at the Don Coates Memorial Tournament going on right now. If you get a chance, it's PoolActrionTV.com for live TV table matches.

A few FB people are filming side matches too. Big event in Raleigh.
