Does everyone here use a jump cue?

Have you tried APA league rules? They don't allow dedicated jump cues, so you would have to use your playing cue to attempt jump shots.

Specialty Cues – Specialty Cues are cues specially tailored to perform specific shots. These include, but are not limited to, jump cues, break cues, and jump-break cues (combination of jump cues and break cues).

Up to a quarter million play in weekly leagues, you may be able to find someone like minded.

I have one, and will use it as needed. I don't love jump shots, but since they are a legal I'll use them.

I wish rule sets were that you can only jump with a full cue.

I don't play games where you need to jump so no
Never have or will

Some people are quite talented with it and that's fine

I don't own a jump cue. I can jump and have borrowed friends jump cues about five times in the past five years.

I don't care a bit if my opponents use them.

I simply don't want to carry one. I also find that some of my opponents are intimidated when I effectively use other methods to get out of safeties.

I carry one and use it, IF the shot dictates it.

When playing rotation games not having one is like leaving the sand wedge home while golfing.

Now if they only made a water wedge I would start golfing again.

IMO, there's very little skill involved when using jumpsticks.

Now, a masse' or swerve shot is a skill set every decent player should own.
It's amazing how many people in leagues own a jumper, and pull it out at every opportunity. It's kinda silly. I'd be willing to wager a small amount, that in leagues I've been in over the last 30 some years, the percentage of made jumps is less than 5%.

It's a waste of time.

The real kicker is, the few that are really good at jumping, wear it like a badge, but couldn't play a masse' to save their life, or a full table swerve shot.
You can't say that jump cues require no skill, and then say that people are wasting their time learning to be proficient with them.

That's what we call a logical inconsistency lol.

Jumping is just another skill. You either take the time to learn, or you don't. Simple as that.

I have a torn rotator cuff due to an athletic injury and I've never had it repaired. It's been that way for years. Works fine if I don't raise my shoulder too high. This condition limits my ability to use a jump cue.

I have to use the "dart method" when jumping so about the only time I'll use it is when the object ball is close to the pocket and the cue ball is easily within reach and lined up for a short jump.

If it looks like I can get shape, I'll go ahead and jump.

I have one, but I found it was more of a novelty than anything else. You go play hoping
someone will play safe so you can take it out and use it. Pretty much all it did was take
up a slot in my case. I like having it, it's kind of a conversation piece and when girls see
it you sort of have to explain it and if you're in the right place you can get then to lay on
the table and do a couple of jump shots, you know........ (but I digress...)
anyways, I have found it's not very useful but nice to have.
See, I used to carry one of those 4 cue cases with every gadget, all it really was, was heavy
and made my back and shoulder hurt. I pretty much only ever used one cue anyway.
So I switched to a 1X2, and carry a couple cubes of chalk, a small towel, piece of leather,
a tip tool,. a bridge head, and I really don't need much else, including a jump cue.
Learn to jump correctly with a full cue, you'll be much happier

Yes, and I don't care for apa's scoring format. Playing Napa league, which I do enjoy.

I don't really feel like I need one, I seem to do okay at jumping with my normal cue but if I'm missing out on something I would like to reconsider not getting one.

I have one but some pool rooms, leagues and tournaments ban them. I'm actually glad my old pool room banned them, because I had to learn how to kick.

Jump cues are just another tool and require a lot of skill to use them. They are like shooting a jacked up shot on steroids. In my opinion , people who diss them should just make a personal choice to not use them if they desire, and leave everybody else to make their own choice. That being said, my first option is almost always a kick shot, but I will jump if the situation demands. Usually it's an offensive play or to avoid a really difficult kick.

Well I'm that guy. Old school. The rails are made for kicking. I think they should be banned but in my in house leagues and the tournaments I play in everybody uses them. I am okay with that. It seems I get ball in hand 75% of the time after my opponent uses them. They probably would have been better off kicking but it's like talking to a wall. Only a handful of the guys I know that use jump cues actually know what they are doing when they use them.

Should we go back to using clay balls, maces and napped cloth?

Alas, I am no longer able to jump the cue ball since my 1st rotator cuff surgery to my right shoulder in 2011.
Since that time, I have had 3 more rotator cuff surgeries to the same shoulder and I'm uable to elevate my arm.
Fortunately, I learned to play 3 cushion more than 50 years ago and became pretty good and so I rely upon kicks.
Oh well, it really could be a lot worse but I sure do miss seeing the cue ball sail over any obstructing object ball.
Obladi Oblada.........even playing pool with aches & pain is still a heck of a lot better than no pool whatsoever.

Actually I'm okay with everything else and like I said I don't care if my opponent uses a jump cue. It usually works in my favor. I'm old school and play 3 cushion too. I think the rails are your friend. If you use use the rails correctly and know cue ball speed, a kick safe is not too difficult to pull off in many cases. Pretty tough to jump safe.

Yeah, it's another skill that should be learned with your playing cue, not a cheat stick, which is what a jump cue is. It was created to cash in on the millions of $$, people spend, that think it helps their game....total BS. I'm pretty sure most of the pro's only carry them because of the silly rules that allow them.

I think it is a necessary tool and you arent using all your options, of you dont use one.

For me, if i had to choose between a break cue and a jumler, id go jump cue.

That said, i cant remember the last time i used mine. It is rare, but sometimes the jum is the right shot, as oplosed to the kick.

:withstupid:

There are certain shots where jumping is a much better option than kicking or swerving, and you are short changing your game by not taking advantage of these shots, IMO.

If the rules ban jump cues I will leave mine at home. Until then I carry it, and have opportunity to use it effectively every few matches it seems.

You are right that marketing is a big factor. Companies looking for dollars. Create a market. Can you imagine anybody paying $1350 for a production cue? Oh wait.
