how are ya'll doing in league ?

I have had several complain about mine too. I am a 4 in 8 ball and a 6 in 9 ball. I’m good and fairly consistent. I am really sorry you lost bud. We all have those mental lapses. We either don’t take a moment or forget our fundamentals like stance and addressing the ball.

I do the same thing after matches. Whether I win or lose. I reflect back and replay key moments in my match. It’s odd how one slip or rattler if the pocket can cost you do much. But it does happen. Keep up the good work Pal.

A 4 in 8 and a 6 in 9 . Hmmmm.. Do you have any idea why you a 2 levels apart in those games ? I have a new girl who was a 4 in 8 and a 1 in 9 but she recently came down to a 3 in 8.

I have seen several that were 2 levels apart but most are his 1 level and most are higher in 9 than 8.

As I have mentioned on here before I fluctuate between a 5 and 6 in 9 ball. I became a 6 in 8 ball halfway through my 3rd year in apa but came back down to a 5 a few sessions later.

I changed my 8 ball strategy completely after becoming a 6. I was always trying to run out every rack back then and sometimes it worked and when it did not i was caught in one ball hell and lost. A friend...probably the bed player in town kept drilling it in my head ...if you can't run out pls safe. Strange that I went back down after that.

As for this weekend ...i realize I gotta build more stamina. I am 63 and did not face a guy over 35...and every one was a higher level . I proved to myself I can hang with them for the most part and can beat them if I cut down my mental errors late in the game.

Good luck to you coop.in your future matches and always a pleasure talking to you on this forum and hopefully we meet some day.

Pleasure talking to you too..., maybe both our teams will end up in Vegas at the same time.

I think it took me forever to get use to playing 8 ball. The session before last was my first one playing 8 ball in APA. I only won 3 times out of 10 matches. I even dropped to a 3 at the end of the session. Once I found a break I like. I feel much more dangerous playing 8 ball. My 9 ball game was great. Especially with safety play. It’s just taken me awhile to find the same safety level with 8 ball. I am bound to go up soon. I beat a 6 last week 3 to 2. But in all seriousness, he scratched 5 times the first rack. Made me think he was throwing the match away.

I have no advice for you in stamina. I am 47 and after a night of playing my feet hurt so bad I can barely walk. Also I play a singles event sometimes. They don’t get until 3am. Mentally I am done about 12 or 1am. My brain can only work for so long. I think the mental tiredness causes me to let match wins to slip through my fingers.

Well I started usapl league tonight and fellas I gotta say i think I am gonna like it. If I ever get this monkey off my back about playing on Monday nights.

I have my worst record in apa on Monday night. All the other nights I have a pretty decent win record. Reflecting on it I really think its because of back to back nights plus it seems like I have to run a jack hammer at work every dang Monday. Just too much for this old man sometimes.

They started me at a 460. I don't know if that is good or bad lol.

Now to my match. I played a 425.. A guy I had never seen before. The race was me 49 and him 43. We played 8 ball. He won 43-30. I just couldn't get it together for some reason. But I am sure its gonna be alright in the long run.

Last night in apa 8 ball I played the same 5 twice due to both teams being short. I lost the first one 4-0. I won the 2nd one 4-2. I think I was still feeling the effects of tri cups this past weekend. I told myself to buckle down the second match after getting embarrassed the first one.

Got tap tomorrow night...i think.

Oh yea...about my usapl handicap. I have a good friend who is a 5/6 like me. He started out as a 450. We always rag each other about being better than our handicaps .

He says I oughta be a 7 in 9 ball. I tell him if he thinks I oughta be a 7 well I think he oughta be an 8 lol . So I ask him how much he paid the lo to be lower than me in Usapl.

He reply's he did not have to pay him any thing cause the lo knows I am better than he is . Well the lo comes up and says that's right. Btw the lo was my apa captain on Monday nights before he disbanded the team and started this usapl league. I tell him he obviously cannot judge handicaps if he ranks me higher than my friend as a 450. We all start laughing. It was all in jest .

Good night tonight...won 5-0 against a 3 in 9 ball, won 5-1 against a 5 in 8 ball...the one I lost I broke 5 balls...problem was one was the 8 one was the cueball...loss in TAP.

Team did OK, seems we have Terrell Owens on our team, he got pissed of and forfeited his match because of some silliness. This guy is probably gonna be off the team before long...so we lost 2-3 tonight in 9 ball and won 4-1 in 8 ball...overall a good night, just wish I didn't have to deal with the sore thumb every other week...oh well guess we will see what happens next week.

On a good note, I think I have had the three most consistent weeks of shooting pool maybe that I have ever had.

Well I won my Wednesday night 8-ball match 3-0 thanks to a 8 ball on the snap.

Last night I played a 9 in my 9 ball league. I had a break and run. When all was said and done. I won. I was way up after a break and run to the 8 ball and a break and run. I broke and scratched and then he ran a couple racks to even it up. I played really really good. Kept relaxed even when he went on his run and I only needed two balls. I won and figured it up at the end. We had 15 innings which equated out to just over 7 balls a inning. That match felt like it lasted forever. But I guess it wasn't with only 15 innings total.

Great shooting coop. My 9 ball match last night was the opposite of yours. Played another 6 Las night and lost 46-39. 28 innings total with a bunch of safes by me trying to keep it close.

First rack he breaks dry and no way for mw to get on the one ball. He runs the table. I thought...this ain't starting out good. Boy was I right.

Missed a shot with bih once trying to get position down table and my next ball. Missed the ball entirely by 3inches on a fairly was cut into the corner but it was a full table shot.

Cant believe I only lost by 7 points as bad as I shot. Later one of my team mates asked me if I lost on purpose. I said I dont do that sort of thing . He said he didn't think I did but he had never seen me shoot that bad...ever. Lol

Thanks Pal..., I hate that for you. I wouldn't even excuse you of laying down. But after such a rough start. You should be thankful you drew it was close as you did. Good Job on that pal.

played this past monday - team won 8-7. we were down 6-0 in the first two matches and fought back. My 7 Breaks and runs the first rack, snaps two 8 balls back to back. breaks and runs again and in the last match just outplayed his opponent. Darn good pool from what I saw.

Wed we played 9 ball - wont 67-43. I got put up against another SL3 and won close. Just always seem to start off low then i somehow get myself to kick it into high gear.

So far so good! Just want to keep winning and stay positive for the next 14 weeks

Started up league again last few months after a while away.

Starting to remember why I left LOL

Pool just hates me, every time I am at the table I have to shoot 3 trick shots to get out, people miss yet balls go in for them in some random pocket or they miss but leave me with new issues to deal with.

Just lost a 9 ball match where the guy won all his games with a wild 3 foot away 1-9 combo, a wild 2-9 combo then a miss on the 7 that not only banked twice across in the wrong pocket, but clipped the 8 ball that was on the rail by the pocket to make that shot 4 times easier LOL. I just can't win on skill alone. I get a break and run, then runs of 6 balls to win my games, he shoots in 2 shots and a miss and wins.

Playing 8 ball against a strong player, he misses, but his ball rolls in front of the 8 blocking my run out. He misses, and creates a cluster for me. It's like I am paying money to get aggravated, no wonder so many league players get drunk LOL

I had masters yesterday and due to being shorthanded I played 3 matches. 1 st match I played a 6/7 and win 7-5. 2nd match I played a 7/8 and man was he on fire. I lost 7-0 although I felt I shot better than the score indicates. The only time I have been shutout other than my first ever match where I started as a 4 and lost 7-0.
I lost my 3rd match 7-6 to the same guy I beat earlier 7-5.

I then went to double jeapordy and played 9 ball vs a 7.... Who like my opponent in my 2nd masters match brought his a game with him. I lost 55-30 in a 55-46 race and again I thought I shot pretty good but this guy was on a whole different level last night.

Thought I would start another post about usapl tonight to avoid an extra long post in the one above.

I got to league and found that I had dropped to a 458 ...down from a 460 starting rating after I lost my match last week again a 425. Completely different outcome this week. I played a 423 in 8 ball and it was a 49-43 race. I won 56-21. I had what they call a win zip. I won every rack. Unlike apa 9 ball where you stop a match when you get your required points you finish out the rack in usapl....thus the 56 score I achieved.

I played my first 9 ball match tonight and when my captain threw me the guy I played 8 ball again jumped up and said he is playing me. ..found out he is the captain. He won the toss and first rack he makes the 9 on the break. Dang ...down 14-0 without ever getting a shot. He he breaks dry the 2nd rack. I pocket the 1 and go 2 rails to get to the 2 down on the bottom rail...i scratch. He makes a fairly easy 2-9 combo. He is up 28-1 after 2 racks and I am really in the hole now.

I win the 3rd rack...dont really know the score though. Next thing I know this guy is making all kind of desperation shots. Smack in the ball at warp speed hoping something goes some where...trying crazy early 9 combos. Making way too many lucky slop shots in my opinion...no one oughta be as lucky as he was lol but i manage to come back from my deficit somewhat.

I am breaking and my scorekeeper says i need 7 and my opponent needs 3. I break dry. My opponent smacks the one ball head on...apparently he was trying a cross corner bank...i dunno but the 1 ball just went back and forth across the table half a dozen times. However the cue ball comes off the rail and flies down table and splits 2 frozen balls sending them into each bottom corner pocket. Dang.....he needs just one ball. Hey...his luck finally ran out...he is hooked and cant get on the 1 ball. I get bih...run a couple balls and play safe. He misses and I get bih again and run out but I have to bank the last 3 balls cause I just cant get in line to make decent position . I win 56-42. My captain says...man you really come alive that last rack. I replied that my opponent pissed me off with all those slop shots and trying crazy early 9 combos. My captain told me I oughta play pissed off more often lol.

Week 1 I went rackless. Great night.

Week 2 only won 1 game in a race to 5.
Scratched on the 8 ball game 1 and mentally lost it after that.

SL7-maybe not after that. Ugh!

I thought in the USAPL when you both were on the hill the points did not matter, It's whoever wins that final game. Since winning is 14 points, if you needed 7 and he needed 3 you were both on the hill, so number of balls he makes should not matter, he has to win the rack or you do in order to win.

Yes that is correct in my 9 ball match. However I did not need the entire rack in my 8 ball match to obtain the points I needed by I was told we play the entire rack any . I won that match 56-21 in a 49-43 race think I will be going up next week. :grin-square:

Friday handicapped league

I played as a sub on my GF's league. It is a BCA 8-ball, team handicap. Everyone plays straight up. I eon 3 of 5 and had some nice moments, but no run outs. Had maybe 39 points out of 50. Brand new Simonis wasn't helping. Like playing on glass, lol. Probably won't do that again, but it was good.

Wish us luck on Thursday, we play a top team and the roster is shaky. I may sub in if anyone struggles. Maybe only 2 cheaters on this team. Remember kiddies, if they are shooting a weird ass shot then get somebody to watch the hit. I always call my own fouls. I also argue when I feel I am in the right on something my opponent questions.

So many cheaters leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. Most of these vermin would probably steal from their neighbor when he is out of town. I did some tasteless things when I was 18 and still wish I could take it back. What I dislike about these leagues and cheating is that people on the rail aren't allowed to say anything, so I sit there and seethe when the cheaters put on a show.

Poor sports are annoying too. After the match is over I can handle it, but during the match, I think they should give up ball in hand for cue smacking, chair kicking, tantrums and all of that other childish crap.
You know who you are. Go ahead break down your stick, I'm ready for you this time, I'll come up to you and shake hands and say good match.

Not a league knock. Happens everywhere and all the time.

Your post is exactly why I quit playing money leagues. Sure every league will have an a hole or 2 but I encountered way too many playing money league.

How do they cheat?

I'm in a bca league, anyone can call foul. Poor sportsmanship can be called as a foul. Clearly in the rules. I'll warn ppl first and make sure everyone knows the perp has been warned. Happens again I'm calling foul and taking bih.

We've got a pretty solid league. Same ppl in it year after year for the most part. No sandbaggers.

Sure there are a couple aholes and everyone knows who they are. I troll em now if they act up.

As for my first league night this week...alcohol is bad mmmkay.

I had tap league 8 ball finals last night. I was surprised to see and am embarrassed to say I was dropped to a 3 in 8 ball. I had a 50% win record and cant believe I am a lowly 3 so my races are.to 2. Damn.....just plain embarrassing. Not sure what I am in 9 ball bit some races were to 3 and some 4 so I really dont know what skill level I am. I only lost one match in 9 ball this past session.

Well on to Las night.

1 match they threw a guy that has played apa a few times . Dont know what his handicap is but he should be a 7/8 if not a 7/9. We threw out 2nd best player..an apa 6/7. Our guy lost.

2 ND match and our throw . My captain comes up to me and asks how I am feeling. I say feeling good. He says good cause you are up. They throw an apa 7/8 and its a 2-4 race with me going to 2 of course. I win 2-0. I shot my ass off with money on the line and kinda irked cause I was lowered to a 3.

3 rd match they throw an apa 6/7 and we throw our 3rd bed player an apa 6/6. Our guy loses.

So we are down 2-1 and my captain ...our best player...an apa 7/8. Of course they dump on him with an apa 4. We win and are tied at 2-2 going into the last match .

They throw their best player who does not play apa but would be a definite 7/9. We have 2 apa 5's ..a 4 and a 3 left. With either of our apa 5's it would be a 5-4 race with one and 5-3 race with the other. Their guy going to 5 of course. With our 3 and 4 it would be a 5-2 race. My captain decides he like the 5-2 race the best but is undecided of which player to throw. Every one votes for the 4...except me of course. I vote for the 3. My captain asks me why I chose the 3. I say he is a better pure shooter than the 4. Y captain goes over and talks to the 4...i dont know what's said but my captain comes back and throws the 3.

Now I am thinking....i can't believe we have 1200 .00 riding on an apa 3 versus one of the strongest players in town and to top it off I was the only one to vote for him lol.

Our guy wins the first rack. Hell yeah !!! Our guy gets a lil overconfident...or careless...or both and loses the next 4 ...one time making an early 8.

Hill-hill. They both run a few and they both play a few safes. Their guy is on his last ball with our guy having one ball left. Their guy makes an unbelievable scratch by following the object ball into a corner pocket. Just unfriggin believable mistake on his part. Our guy gets bih and shoots his last ball in just a lil to hard and gets bad on the 8. No time outs left for him. He looks at one corner pocket...a definite scratch in the side. He looks at the other corner pocket....a maybe scratch in the other side if he hits it too hard and dont put a lil draw on the cue ball. He takes the right shot and makes it.

Unbelievable an apa 3 won us 1200.00.against one of the better players in town.

As has been said many times on here ...anything can happen in a short race.
