I played in an 8 singles board qualifier and went undefeated. Its the first time I have qualified in the last 3 years. In 8 ball that is.

I qualified for 9 ball last year but did not go to the regionals. I qualified as a 5 and was raised to a 6 a few weeks before regionals. I am one if the few players I know around here that is a realist. In other words I am not one of those that think they are better than they really are and knew I did nit have a chance in hell of winning that thing. Also I would have been locked in as a 6 for life. Being a realist I know I have a lot of work to do on my break before I van be competitive as a 6.

My 9 ball break sucks...mostly due to an injured shooting arm and hand. Cant close ally fingers around the cue so I dont have much strength or control on my breaks. Shooting wise my injury bothers me occasionally but I don't use it as an excuse lol.

Have played 3 matches since the last time I posted.

Beat one of the best 5's in our league 5-2 in 8 ball
Same night lost to a 5 in 9-ball.

Then this week in 9 ball I put a serious 5-1 beatdown on one of the best players in the league...I flat out shot maybe the best nine ball match I ever have Monday night and plan to build from there.

Trying a few new sequences in my PSR and it is focusing me to a degree I didn't think possible.

Hopefully this trend continues and I can continue to show up and compete with the best.

Nice shooting and good luck with your new psr.

I have not played all week due to various circumstances since I won the singles qualifier I spoke of in my last post.

After winning the qualifier I went to my double jeapordy league but did not play. I just captained and matched people up and took the night off playing.

Our Monday night apa double jeapordy team folded this session. This past Monday was the first night of the new session. The reason it folded is because our captain is starting a usapl league on Monday nights starting in 2 weeks and our team is moving to that league.

Tuesday night tap league we had a bye due to the team we were supposed to play folded.

Thursday night apa 9 ball travel we also had a bye due to the team we were supposed to play is short of players. First night of new session and he is still trying to put his team together after a few players dropped off his team.

Well this is Friday night and strangely I have not had any withdrawal symptoms from nit playing all week lol .

Our summer 9 ball league is just about over, seems each year I end up with a novice player as my partner, probably due to my going SW in winter and not being able to hook up with a better player. anyhow our league has a no coaching rule so in our last scotch doubles game my partner comes to the table with 3 balls left and BIH. The balls are well seperated so it should be an easy out, he looks the table over and lines up a combo on the 9, probably no more than a 1 in 20 shot, fires away and of course misses.

Luckily it's a pretty easy going league, so what can you do.

I know what you mean lol I used to play jack and Jill with a 2. A nice older woman who loves to play pool and never could get a decent partner so I played with her knowing we would never finish near the top. Finally I couldn't bear it anymore lol.

One good thing came out of it though. My kicking game improved quite a bit lol.

If you take it too serious it will drive you nuts, I try to keep calm and play on.

Pretty good advice for anyone . Actually I dont take it too serious ...except for playoffs or higher.

I named one if the teams I captain pool hall clowns to to emphasize we are a group just having fun playing pool.

The other team I captain was named clowning around but I changed it this session to .. Hold my beer and watch this shot. A play off the misconception apa players are a bunch of drunks. I dont even drink except for higher level tournaments . Alcohol does not make you a better player but it does help to erase negative thoughts while shooting which allows you to play your best. At least that's what it does for me.

Tuesday night was the first time I played in a week and a half...since i won a singles 8 ball qualifier

Played tap and won 9 ball 4-1 in a 4-3 race. I went 5-0 for the session in 9 ball. I missed several weeks for various reasons.

I played 8 ball in a 5-3 race and lost 5-1. I had never seen this guy before and I gotta say as good as he is i was happy to win at least one rack.

Last night I played apa 9 ball. A night i hope to soon forget. I couldn't do anything right and it seemed like my opponent couldn't do anything wrong.

Just a couple examples. He breaks ..makes a ball .. Pockets the 1 and hangs the 2 in the bottom right corner. Only who I have is kick back up table and down again to the 2. Made it but hooked myself on the 3. Kick at the 3 and legal hit but he runs out.

Next rack he makes 4 on the break and runs out. Next rack he makes the 1 and 2 but misses the 3. Wouldn't you know it..i gotta kick the 3 but make it and hook myself on the 4. I am thinking kick off the right side rail and and aim for the left top pocket. No...that aint gonna work cause I it goes I am left bad on the 5.

So I kick off the left side rail trying a 4-6 combo where the 6 was practically hanging in the right side pocket. Pocket the 4 in the right top pocket with stun and pocket the 5 in the bottom Left pocket and hope for the best from there

Nice hit on the 4 and sure enough the 6 falls....wait a minute...the cue ball follows the 6 in and my opponent runs out.

A couple more scenarios like that but you get the picture.

Oh yea I am back up to a 6 again so it was a 46-46 race. I lost 46-28. The way the match went I guess I oughta be happy I managed to get 28 points lol

Just started up Fall Session for APA.

Monday nights consists of 8 ball - team should be strong, put together another all-star line up for this session. I'm locked in as a S/L 5 from nationals in Las Vegas so I have some room to improve week to week.

Wed. Nights I'm playing on a friends team, 9 ball only. Team is alright, they came in 3rd place during the summer session so I'd like to try and make Tier 1 for the local qualifier tournaments / states. We played this past week - won 59-41. My match was tough, was getting beat by a S/L 3 0-10 in the first rack, was down 5-15 in the second than finally caught my gear and ended up winning 31-23.

We'll see how it goes, its always a constant struggle & fight for improvement.

My Wednesday Nighg 8 ball team is doing well... I know I said I didn’t wanna play 8 ball anymore. But a team needed a player. So I gave in. Great group of people though. I can see us going to Vegas.

My Thursday night 9 ball team is doing well. We are 2 weeks in and have 2 big wins. We’re in 2nd place out of 12 teams. But it’s a strong team and we have won our session in 1st place 6 time out of the last 8. I wanna help them go to Vegas just once. Strong team but we all kind of faulter in the LTC’s.

I know that faulter guy all too well. :frown:

I thought I finally had a 9 ball team that was going to make it to Vegas this year.

We came out firing on all 8 cylinders in ltc's . 2 rounds did not even make it 5 matches because we were blowing every one away.

On the way to the pool hall that Sunday for the quarter finals I was worried about the possibility of several players being raised ...including me after beating a 9 by 15-5 Saturday.

I wound up being worried for nothing. My team fell apart. Every one was shooting like they had never played pool before. Oh well...i keep saying there is always next year lol.

We started our 8 ball tri cups this week. We won our first round pretty convincingly...uh oh. Hope it dont turn out like 9 ball cities.

I played a darn good 6. I am a 5 in 8 ball
I won a very tough match hill-hill. When I say tough I mean tough. 38 total innings with a boat load of safes played by both of us. I had the opportunity to win 4-3 but i had an uncharacteristic miscue on the 8 ball one rack and my opponent ran out.

I was flat wore out after the match was over. There is no way at 63 years old I can play like that on a regular session night and then get up and go to work the next day lol.y legs were killing me when I got home 12:30 this morning .

Well.back at it again today and gonna see if we can continue where we left off last night.

Well.i.just.got.back from tri cups and as I say quite often afterwards....there is always next time.

I must say that overall I played great. Had a few people commenting about me handicap but that's to be expected I guess when you play like it means something instead of a regular night out.

I lost a tough one hill- hill vs a 6. Made what I call a brain fart. Missed the 8 unexplanablely.. After I shook my opponents hand he said ...i dont know how you missed that 8 but I am glad you did. I just started laughing. He went on to say I was the toughest 5 he had ever seen. My team came through though and we went on to the finals where we ran into a buzz saw ....the only way I can describe it. My guys played good....as good as they had all tournament . The other team just played a whole lot better.

My 4 lost 3-0 to a 4. One of my 5's lost 4-2 to a 5. I lost 5-2 against a 6. I dont dwell on losses but I do reflect back afterwards to see why I lost and try to learn from it.

I made 2 costly mental mistakes that cost me 2 racks. Would have won the match with those 2 racks. I guess fatigue just set in and I was not as sharp as I had been earlier in the day. I played a safe on an 8 that I should have just shot in. My opponent made a heluva kick and went on to run out. I was second guessing myself before shooting and should have went with my gut to just shoot it . It was a hard shot but I had been making harder shots than that all day. Just started playing too conservative I guess.

Another rack I scratched on my last ball using spin to try to get good on the 8. Shoulda just cheated the pocket a little and made a hard cut on the 8. Again just a mental mistake . Live and learn from it.

Back to the comments on my handicap. Kinda funny really. Before my last match I had went over how I wanted to match every one up with my co captain. I told him that this 6 was going to be the best 6 we had seen so far in this tournament. Halfway through my match my co captain says to me . I know you said he was going to be the best 6 but he sure aint playing like a 6. I just laughed. After my match was over. The last match we had....the lo is collecting the score sheets and one of my team mates over hears my opponent complaining about my handicap....although he had just won 5-2 . Lmao :grin-square:
