Cheap Cue Recommendation

A few years ago, I wanted to buy a cheap 2-piece cue to provide guests something to play with. I purchased one of the Stroker Essential Series cues from Muellers (http://www.muellers.com/Stroker-Pool-Cues.html). Soon after receiving it, I tried it out and was quite surprised how much I liked the way it played. I bought another so when I play with guests, I don't need to pull out my $3K cues. The Strokers come with LePro tips and claim to have linen wraps (I am not so sure because of the coating). They are $38 each, so if you buy 2 or more, shipping is free. I just checked and both of mine, which are ~6 years old, roll straight. They lack the finish qualities you expect from more expensive cues. One cue was delivered an ounce heavier than labeled on the cue. Also, one tip came off and needed to be reinstalled. Other than that, they are pretty good.

Starting at $12. They used to sell 3 for $30 or so and I've bought several of those deals. I even sold one of those to Scott Frost when he was young. He liked it but told me he lost it in a bet or traded it away...I forget the details now.

If it's good enough for Scott, it's good enough for anyone. :)

At that price, the cue might be too slow for 9-ball, but I bet it is the nuts for One Pocket.

A used vintage Cue can had for $50 to $100 bucks.
Plain Jane Viking.
Basic “E” series McDermott.
Older Adam cues are nice.
An older Mali plays well.

If you are going to buy new get the Players cue.
Some models be purchased for $75 shipped.

Valley Supremes come with a good tip already...for $20. Slip-on tips suck...plain and simple. Lots of guys and places who will retip those house cues with LePros or Triangles for $3-$5 apiece.

Inexpensive cues for his own group of guys that want to improve.
Slip-on tips for the dozen cues that do not have any tips on them.

No one can play with cues with no tip at all.. Slip-ons for bangers
and he may just find a few more students, who are likely to learn.

Or maybe he can order 12 Kamui Blacks & hire a tip replacement
guy for 12 crappy cues...Just to get the feel of hitting the cue ball.

Agreed. I've got 6 Valley Supremes in my rack for my grandkids and their freinds.

OP said the current cues were beat up. I've seen beat up cues with deep craters
and ferrules mushroomed over or cracked, if any ferrule at all... Not that the cues
can't have tips but you'd have $3 to $5 bucks in 12 cues each that wouldn't bring
50 cents in a garage sale. 50 bucks in 12 cues you don't own makes no sense to
me, especially if a younger student beats them up. 12 slip-ons at Walmart are $5.

The veterans can have better cues under the counter.. until the students find 'em.
I think the OP, and all his friends, would be better off with a 2 piece cue in the car.
