Can anyone tell me what this cue is. (solved it’s a Richard Black)

Hello first off thanks to all who make this forum happen. This is my first post. I’ve had this cue awhile. And I took it to my local billiards shop they couldn’t identify the maker but said the ferrules are all ivory. We have checked under the cap etc. no dice on a mark. Thanks to all those that can help this is a great site and community.

I just got off the phone with Mr. Richard Black and he confirmed this was one of his from the 1970’s before he signed them. I would like to thank him for his time and professionalism and thank all of you here for all your help

It is a very cool classic cue, and I am glad you didn't do anything to it to try to clean it up. I might have had that pilot repaired...but if in doubt leave it alone.

Richard Black was mentioned, and I can't rule that out. It did come to mind for me as well. There are other possibilities, but I would contact Black.

The case is an Asian import. They were often branded Adam, but often sold without a particular branding.

Yeah I’m probably gonna cancel that auction with the new information I have . Messages started pouring in my eBay account with in a hour guys offering more than double than what it’s listed for to end it now but of course they didn’t know what it was. but them being good guys were willing to take a chance .

That’s when I thought to put it on here. I bought it at a estate sale a couple years back and it’s just sat at home. because it’s always been a goal of mine to get a pool table. And I knew when I saw it. it was quality. But I had no idea what cues are worth. Last month my boss was talking about buying a new cue. So I said well I have a cue it’s pretty nice how much are cues worth. And now I’m here. Again I am grateful to all of you. My lucky day.

I haven't seen enough of them to say for sure.

Cues that need work never present as well, sometimes minimal clean-up and repair pays off.

Considering condition, age, and how fancy it is. If it is structurally sound and straight matters a lot. I would be guessing in the two to three grand range? Certainly it should pull 1800 in a quick sale.

But again, I don't see enough of them to know their market real well.

On Ebay, in four days? I don't think the full market value will be realized.

No chance to examine the cue. It is an Ebay sale, that will put some people off. The Ebay ad says "Seller does not offer returns". That will put some people off. The seller is unknown to the community. That will put some people off as well.

Now that he has posted here, it will help the value and the sale, of that I am confident.

Well, some might get miffed if you pull the sale. But I would do that. You have a legitimate reason, you didn't know what the cue was and really didn't even understand what the custom cue market was at all. There is a huge community, and you have an early Hall of Fame cue maker's cue there. Unless you are in urgent need to sell, talk with some more people around here and take your time.

It is a great community and taking your time will help you realize the full potential of the sale.

haha thats awesome. the reason im trying to sell is there is a custom shop 1969 strat with reverse headstock like hendrix im trying to buy. this ought to get me a good way there but im in no hurry to sell.

I would say you are in the ball park.

I had a 1965 Fender Mustang I wish I never sold.

If you talk to Richard again, Ask him if that butt sleeve is yellow micarta. If so, I've never seen a cue with a full micarta butt sleeve. If it were mine and he would do it, I might have him refinish the cue. But, I think his refinishes are about $400-450 so it may not be worth getting it done. Either way, it's a really cool old cue. Congratulations.

Ok just a update. i will be ending the ebay auction at this time. given the fact that the info i was given after i took it to a shop was off.(it's not their fault it's a great shop and was unsigned.) im also gonna relist it on ebay at a fixed price. and give the many people watching it there a shot at it.

i am also gonna list it here. if it sells here then i will donate a percentage of the sale to this fine website. i would not have had any idea what it was if it was not for you folk's. all though not a avid pool player i can appreciate the dedication the game takes and the artisanship of the cue makers. you guys have been more than welcoming and helpful. and thats the least i can do to help you guys forum out.
