Why all the Memorial Tournament?

I get it and no disrespect to the deceased by why are there so many tournaments consisting of Memorial Tournament.

Then you have out of towners showing up and beating everyone else. Even some pros show up and they didn't even know the person. That within itself is pretty disrespectful.

Anyone find these Memorial tournaments to be disrespectful.

You can still have a good tournament without the person's name.

Only in pool where you take an opportunistic chance to turn a death into a tournament.

Well, it seems like fully half of America is currently looking for something to be offended by, so I can't really say I am all that surprised that there would be a bunch of p*ssies out there offended by memorial tournaments.

I think you mean wishing death on a person to capitalize.

Name a famous pool player in their hometowns and I bet players can't wait for their inevitable.

I'm sure they can name it something else.

The pool world are filled with these type of tournaments.

Are you kidding or just clueless? Its usually so people who knew the person being memorialized can get together and tell old stories and relive time spent with them. Kinda like a wake each tournament. Your take on them is both idiotic and sad.

I think it's wrong to have a memorial tournament for a guy that died of a heroin overdose, and then throughout the tournament, proclaim what a nice fellow he was. Hello? If he was such a nice fellow, he wouldn't be shooting Heroin.

Wow. You are one hard-core dude. Ever had any friends/family with substance abuse problems? Sometimes life's events put one on a path they never intended. The fact that somebody gets addicted(to anything) doesn't make them a bad person. That being said, if one's addiction drives them to robbery(or worse) then that's a different story. I've known some really nice pool players that have ended-up chasing whatever dragon but i never thought of them as bad people. Must be nice to live in such a black/white clear cut world. I don't know if you are referring to Louie R. in your post but there was nothing BAD about Louie. One of the nicest guys you'd ever meet but the pool life and the chemicals got him.

And if you are referring to Ginky’s battle with substance abuse, he only got hooked while taking painkillers from a bad car accident. Shame.

Whatever it is, I think it's pretty unfair to the rest of us that have really worked on making horrible posts all year.

That this Dim Poopa gets to come in right before the year is over and make the worst post of the year.

There really needs to be a cut off for this sort of thing.

That's what i've been told that Ginky was painkillers and alcohol. I don't know who that guy is referring to about the heroin. Louie R. was pretty much pills(any) and alcohol. To this day the story of his so called suicide is kinda iffy. Louie was a kind soul that just got ate up by the pool lifestyle. Had he been a pro golfer he would have crowds bigger than Daly in his heyday and then moved into the tv booth.

No, I wasn't referring to Louie Roberts. I was told by one of his close friends it was Heroin that killed him. A popular memorial tournament happens every year named after the fellow I have in mind. Nobody holds you down and injects Heroin in your arm. You do it on your own. No, I never had a relative addicted to drugs. We're told from the second grade up that drugs will kill you, so why do it? Oh, blame you doctor or a car accident, but ultimately it was you that held the needle.
Sorry, I give no credibility to a heroin addict and they'll never be my hero in spite of having a memorial tournament named after them.
Now, are we still wondering how pool and pool players get a bad image?

HUH???? Unless my eyes have failed in the last 24hrs didn't the OP's thread have to do with his disgust of Memorial tournaments? Pretty sure that was his intent and i totally disagree. Not real sure what your post is about.
