Is my cue broken?

Sounds exactly like the A-joint rattle my Olney developed. I asked Jeff about it and he said it was enough work to fix that it’d be simpler to just build a new cue since it was a basic Birdseye maple Merry Widow. Cue was a couple years old and had been my player but never dropped or damaged, I take very good care of my cues. He didn’t want to cover it as he couldn’t be sure how I’d treated the cue, so I just sold it cheap (with full discolsure of the problem of course) and moved on. Basically sold it for the value of the two shafts.

Cue still played fine however and you only noticed it occasionally. It was subtle but once I knew it was there it bugged me enough that I had to find a new player.

Cues left in cars without enough protection do this.

I used to sell a lot of cues...kept the cases wrapped in wool blankets and comforters
when in my truck....good for cold or heat conditions.

You may be right, but would that develop this suddenly? Since I’ve arrived in AZ, I’ve played 20 hours or so.
 
Also, everything resonates at a certain frequency. So, even though it might seem like its coming from the forearm it might actually be coming from the ferrule or the tip. Not saying that’s what it is but I wouldn’t be so quick to point to any one particular item.

Keep your cue, E....but get another one for that area.
...you travel a lot, I like the chances of that cue having its hit restored in your travels.

The most expensive cue I ever owned...the steel joint would loosen just a bit in the spring...
...and then tighten up again.

One of my three best snooker cues didn't hit well in the UK..played just fine in Canada.

Enjoy him. Most don’t get it. But, it’s not because we don’t understand him. He just has a lack of class and more importantly adds nothing but useless one liners. Glad he is your best friend. Everyone needs a friend.

Back on track, if all else fails, clean all joint surfaces. The faces, the threads, get in the insert and clean it. Paper towel and alcohol. Amazing how dirt in the joint creates some weird buzzes and noises.
