You obv know each table has its own attributes, but seems to me that the pros use the cut break when the rack goes up.
I'd say pay attention to where the 1 goes and don't be hesitant to try different speeds, break locations, elevation to back of cue...

Maybe you play sets each way? Nina on the spot one set, then 1 on the spot, next?
But seriously...at our level, how many games are really won from the break?
I don't think it will have significant impact on the result.

If he's insisting you rack that way in order for him to play you, apparently you must have a strong break, you often run out, and he feels he needs to change up something to have a chance to beat you. Based on his demands, sounds like you have a mental advantage over him to start with. I'd suggest just saying you don't really care how the balls are racked, you'll play him regardless.
It's a better way to play the game, in my opinion.
Takes away the wired wing ball, but the one in the side is still on using a cut break - the difference is if you're playing to make the one, you can't also control it (like you can when playing to make a wing ball) and so its a less static layout post break.
So yeah, cut break from the rail, aiming to make the one in the side.

I will explain how 9b is played: you have to make the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth balls.
Often, I call them ray, ed, bill, mike, jack, Ron, brad, Gary and Pete.
Doesn't really matter what you call them. They are all there.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm just not following. Should I care if the low number balls are still on the table vs. the high balls being there?

I understand that you were having an issue with the opponent making the wing ball more often that a different suggestion could spark other possible ideas. Hence "My $0.0002
On the league I'm on, some players have a hard time seeing dark or light colored balls, green ball on green cloth, etc. and have a little higher % of miss. An advantage is just that an advantage as long as it's legal.

I have no issues with anyone making any balls on the break, just trying to learn why the 9 on the spot may or may not be an advantage.
What I skim read on the Net, it seems others are having the same issue about Wing Ball Potting.
So far, reading and videos that show this 9 on the spot, they have found it's breaking the Wing Ball trend.
Will it be accepted by the masses? I would vote yes, 9 on spot.
I'm not one who NEEDS to win, I don't play for $$. Winning is nice of course but after 60 years of pool, I'd rather have more players in the system enjoying for what it is than how it was...(eg: movie "Hustler")
Looooong ago I penned a pocket book called "Alternative games of pool". Sadly it didn't sell well. It was designed to help equal out players without the use of averages. Example: "9 Ball, last pocket". Only problem with that is, if the 9 is pocket hanging.
