conceding the last ball.

LOL, one of the things that annoys me is celebrating a league match win like it's the World Series or something, especially when it's due to the other player making a mistake.

I was at the pool room a while back hitting some balls on the
9 ft. and the leagues were playing on the bar tables right behind me.
This guy scratches on the 9 and the opponents team mates start hollering
and high fiveing each other. The who scratched spots the 9 . When the
opponent sees this he says you WANT me to shoot it ? So he starts to
make a big show, walking around looking at it from all angles, getting
down and back up, chalking his cue 10 times while his team mates whooped
and hollered. He gets down for the tenth time looking at his team
grinning like a opossum eating s--- ,and fouls the cue ball . The other guy
says you want me to shoot it. It was great. I always concede the last
ball if easy because the way I figure it , the guy has been in his chair so long
waiting his turn , he's cold and I don't want to give him any chance to
get in stroke,. RIGHT DEANCO ?

Conceding the last ball...

While I'm quite sure that most rotation games will ever revert to "days of old", but this is a perfect scenario where shooting a spot shot from behind the head string is an ideal option rather than a concession...!!!

I know this subject has been rough up on here before but it seemed like it was always about a fairly easy shot....or not. Well I had a similar situation today in masters except it was about my opponent spotting the 9 after he made the 9 and scratched.

After he scratched I just marked down a win for me while he is as getting the balls out if the tray....or at less that's what I thought. He instead retrieved just the 9 and spotted it.

I laughed and said ...you want me to shoot it ? He said yea. So I retrieved the cue ball and was still chuckling to myself when I pocketed the 9. Now I realize anything can happen on any shot and truth be told I have missed shots before with bih but it was mostly because I was trying to get position.

I have known this guy for years and have played him countless times and even though he is a 7/7 and I am a 5/5 its anybodys game when we match up. Actually we were tied at the time he spotted the ball and I guess he was wanting to play mind games at this point.

Do you guys make it a habit of making your opponent shoot the money ball and hen he has bih ?
I do and don't. Its a lot like conceding putts in a golf match. Sometimes you give 'em the shot early in a match but make them shoot it later when more heat is on. Gamesmanship is part of the fun.

Yeah, that is one of the more annoying things in pool leagues. I don't ever see that in the good league I play in, but in the banger league I sub for, it's all the time. You actually here them cheering when they see the cue ball heading for a pocket, and it's not even after making the 8 ball, it's just the middle of the match... WTF ??

And if they do that to me in the banger league, I will safety them the rest of the night and never give them anything to shoot at. I won't even run out, i'll just torture them instead. And most of them can't jump or kick, so it really makes it quite fun ;)

Pool player's clap. Watch the hustler when Eddie makes the bank combo shot, only place I remember for sure to see it.
A carom player taps his chalk on the side of his cue to complement a nice shot. If the audience is applauding, the player will wait until the applause has died down so his opponent can hear.

A snooker player coming to the table after his opponent has played a good safety will tap/place their cue gently on the rail or pat the table.

And that's why some tournaments have banned concessions.

My opponent had BIH on the 9. He moved the cue on his first warm up stroke and fouled.

And why you shouldn't let yourself start wondering if your opponent is going to make you shoot the last ball.

I wasn't talking about tournament play. Should have said that at beginning. In a tournament you shouldn't concede shots, unscrew or any other sharky move. Gambling? Different story altogether. ;)

Straight up - I thought the "tap tap tap" was an aquarium reference. Yeh I get the tap your cue butt on the floor thing, I've been doing it since day one. Just never heard "tap tap tap" uttered in this context.

Frankly, I feel it is just another way the game we all love is being demeaned. Watched a match on a "live stream" a week ago. Chip Compton and Sky Woodward. They had a "discussion" about racking early in the match. When Chip fell behind, he began giving up the rack on the 5 or 6 ball. Shades of the old Earl! Believe Mike Zuglan has it correct. You concede a nine ball. You lose that game. As a further penalty you also lose a second game on the wire. Come on folks. Just a little respect. Please!

Should have mentioned it was a match for 2/3 and the difference in the Calcutta was significant!

Also, I never tap the cue or snap my fingers to say "good shot" while the opponent is playing.

First, noise can disturb him, and second, why would you encourage him during a run ?

I only tap my cue, when I come back at the table, if the guy pulled a nice safety shot.
