Mezz cues are fantastic

What's the United Joint? Is it interchangeable with others or just with theirs?

The United Joint is basically a 5/16-14 but is an improvement. I bought an EC7 dark stained curly maple with the Ex Pro shaft upgrade. I always really wanted to use the Ex Pro on my Schon's and possibly on a custom Leon Sly I have. I say "improvement" because you can really feel the last few turns tighten even though the pilot is smaller than the beefy pilot my cues originally have. Very secure feeling.

For a while, I was debating about getting the Ex Pro changed to radial to use my other cues. (Mezz has no interest in making that shaft for other joints, I've asked.)

The Exceed cues might be great but it seems very difficult to actually get one. I do not want to wait 18 months for a catalog cue. The CP13SW models look tempting to me but "composite" wood scares me off.

Perfect, thank you!
What are your thoughts on the Ex Pro?

I'm sure Mezz cues are fantastic. Yet, there he is...atop the Fargo ratings...some dorky guy playing with a Cuetec and wearing a glove.

I love it. I have considered trying the HP2 in radial but afraid it won't feel like the ex pro. I hear the HP2 is really stiff.

Any future Mezz cue purchase will surely be upgraded to the ex pro. There is a reason the ex pro is the Exceed standard shaft.

My Game was at a stand still. No mater how much I practiced or how many tournaments I played. So I got rid of my OB break cue first. Trying a few other break cues gave me the bug to try new stuff. I did some research and started checking on a few different brands. Even asked some different people at the pool hall where i play, if I could try their cues. I wanted to try a variety. I settled on Mezz but the only thing that had me worried was the shaft and tip combinations. They have so many.

Luckily the Ex Pro is a major change from my OB Pro. Both in width and feel. But it only took about a hour to get confident with it. I am thinking about entering a big tournament here next month just to give it a good workout. My Confidence is way up. I know it's mostly psychological. I do miss certain things about the OB. Just honestly surprised at how well the Mezz feels compared to the OB. The pop of the Cueball, The English it applies. Everything just feels good.

Did you try a Meucci by any chance? I might be buying a new cue soon, waiting on the Expo to try them.

I tried a older one and a new one... I get lessons sometimes from Loreejon and she loves them. They are good. but the shaft feels strange to me. I think it's the feedback. It could be from years of using OB Shafts. I don't know.

I've been thinking of venturing into 'modern' equipment like LD shaft etc...Never played with one. I've had the same playing cue (Schon) for 25+ years and only started branching out the last 6 months. The Mezz + Ex Pro shaft is something I am considering so it's great to have all this feedback here.

My goodness these things shoot lights out. Very effortless and their shafts are incredible. The build quality is very good too.

To be honest I cannot go back to a custom.

How are their Exceed line?
My longtime account rep at Seyberts, who I consider very knowledgeable on all cues, says the Mezz cues are right up there with Predator as their top selling cues right now. They're having trouble keeping them in stock.

Mezz is not in same league as predator. Tried all predator shafts including revo & rush break cue. There not for me! MEZZ & EXCEED best money can buy in a cue build & a player!

So you're saying Mezz is much better than Predator, in particular the shafts? I'm concerned about shaft deflection, as I've played with 314 shafts for nearly 20 years and Vantage Predator shafts for the last 3 years. Does anyone know the deflection difference between the Mezz 700 shaft and the Vantage shaft I'm used to playing with? More or less deflection from the Mezz 12.5 mm 700 shaft versus the Vantage shaft? I'm just concerned how long it might take me to make the adjustment.

WX700 has less deflection than 314/3, but no by much.
But the big difference is that the ferrules don`t crack for nothing and there is no laminations that split.
The Vantage is another beast, I think WX700 actually has lower deflection than Vantage.
If you like that stiff taper, Hybrid Alpha or Hybrid Pro II might be better suited for you.
Repairing hundreds of cues each year and having a friendship with the local Mezz dealer, I see a fair share of Mezz and Exceed cues and there is no other production brand that comes close to the consistency Mezz have.
Mezz has also recently come with a slev of new cool products like the 2" and 4" extenders, the 72gram extension and the shaft weight system.

I checked out the shaft reviews by Brandon Gramse at Select Billiards. The Mezz 700 shaft appears to have less deflection than the Predator V shaft at a soft speed, about the same deflection at medium speed, and slightly more deflection than the Predator V shaft on a firm speed stroke with one cuetip of english.

Mezz cues excell at build quality and feel. The WD/WX 700 has a fairly low deflection but there are shafts with lower deflection than this. None have the same feel, and I've pretty much tried them all even the Exceed isn't better IMO.

It's just a great overall package of build quality, balance, great feel and decent ld properties at a reasonable price (compared to Predator). You can find low end Predators that are close to a Mezz in price, but the build quality is not as good, and the feel isn't either.

I let people try my Mezz cue all the time. I've never had anyone dislike it. Of course I sold it, which was no problem, but I know I can always get another and it will be just as good, because they are very consistent. Best buy in cues, bar none.

I thought you were done posting here. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad you’re back, but you mad a post about never posting again. That was you, right?

I haven't gotten to try a Exceed. They look sharp thought. Even on Videos. I just bought my first Mezz and got the Ex Pro Shaft. I have to say. I'm loving it. Great playing cue.

Coop - i like to test hit that ex pro sometime. greg b

No problem. I'd let you. I play at Cue Time on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. plus some weekend tournaments. Hit me up and I'll let you shoot with it for a bit. I don't mind a all.

Sold - I'm going to order a Mezz SP series model on Monday from my Seyberts rep, with a 2-inch butt extension, as I use a 2-inch longer cue. If I don't like it, I'm sure I won't have a problem selling it, but I'm thinking I'll like it, based on what I've read here. Do you think a 2-inch extension screwed in to the butt of the cue will in any way affect the feel of the hit? I'll report back in roughly a week with my feedback on this cue.

Glad you're taking the plunge. It's one purchase I am not regretting. The Ex Pro is remarkable in itself. I don't think the 2 extension will effect you at all if you are already use to a longer cue. It should not effect balance much.

No offense pard but you're WAAAY overthinking this. Mezz are great cues and you'll adjust to it within a few days. Get, chalk it, play it. I used to be like this with putters til i finally came to the conclusion that the implement really doesn't mean diddly. BTW, i'm going to get a CP-13SW as soon as the curly-maple version is back in stock. Best production cues by a mile.
