I am working with some big Promoter's on a Tournament in the fall 2018 and would like the opinion of the AZ Billiards Fan's on what 60 Top Player's you would like to see.The Tourney will be Live Stream Free. Please keep it serious, I am working on a tight time line and it would be very hard to scan through these pages if I get a lot of Garbage to have to sort though ! Regards in advance from Rocky McElroy and Tony Crosby to all you Pool Fan's for your help ! P.S. The Venue is outstanding and the Fan's and Players will Love it, If this event is a success there will at least 3 more ! Let's Keep Pool Alive ! The official announcement is coming on Mon. 5/21/18,it will be a $25000 Added Event, the Players list will be released next week, the first 60 Players that pay by PayPal will be guaranteed a spot. The Promoters will invite the other 4 pots. The top 54 of any sex as rated by Fargo + the top 5 Americans not included in the above and Earl if he misses the list.

Are you saying it will be an invitational? Or open?

Too few specifics to commit to but I am interested. I am looking for big table tournaments to put on my calendar. Probably hitting Turning Stone, we'll see about Fleming's 9 ball event. So I will stay tuned.

It's hard for players my speed. I struggle at the US Open now that the entry has gone to $1,000 and the field has brought the top of the international players. But most of the other tournaments don't pay deep enough for me to fly to. For example, Joss Tour events, Mezz Tour (where I'd have to fly to give up weight), Predator Tour events, etc. Hard to spend $1,000 on a trip where I'd have to win to break even.

The best for me was back in the Seminole Tour days. They had 3 day tournaments so I would only have to take one day off work, then I would break even if I cashed reasonably well. The fields were difficult enough to include a handful of top players but not so hard I didn't feel competitive. I was loving 2011 until they closed shop. I'm not sure who you are but are you affiliated with the Capones in FL that hosted one of these events? (Maybe the historic round robin!?!)

So, for me I'd be hungry for something between a Joss event and a US Open. Turning Stone is good for me. And I'll play tougher tournaments too, I don't mind testing myself.

As for who you draw, honestly I have never thought about that. As a player it's alien to me to vote on who gets to play. If it's invitational and I am not invited then I'll just play another event in which case who you do end up inviting doesn't mean to much to me. I think we all need a little bit better understanding of what you have in mind. We'd all love to see more good events!

Have it in Owensboro. Not been a tournament there in a long time. I am sure Nick would lend a helping hand, along with Brunswick!

Owensboro doesn't even have it's own tourneys, the players there are always in Evansville or somewhere in Illinois playing. Why not have it in your basement not been a tournament there in a long time either yo.

Tony Drago, the top 5 guys from Taiwan, Europe is stacked try and get a handful of young guns from there plus Melling and the regular American and non American regular top players. Siming Chen and set up a rack your own 9 ball match with Donny Mills lol!

poolmanis and Danny Harriman

both are active on AZ

Of course all of us like seeing the top players in the world (Philippines, China, Taiwan, Europe and the USA). If possible, adding some of the top women players (Chinese especially, along with Corr, both Fishers, and Gai Young) would really make it a special event. I'd like to see as many as 16 of the best women in the field. Let's see how they do against the top men. Now that would be interesting!

I'd like to see how they do against some really solid short stops.

GYK has proven over and over how that would go-depending on your definition of what 'really solid' is of course. There is a psychological factor also where it might take a while for some of the ladies to feel confident and comfortable playing men and thus start winning vs the ones they are 'supposed' to beat.

I hate to bring up GYK all the time but i know her and her game pretty well. She lost to Allison the first TEN (yeah sorry it is such a round number but that is what it was) times she played Allison- After she got her first win I'd say it was 70-30 percentage in her favor after that.

I would like this!

Who wouldn't? But you'd have to pay their expenses and schedule it the week before/after Pat's tourney in Va to get a good chunk of them. Pat's event is definitely open to the ladies!

Assuming it will be at Capone's ( your room ), the venue will be outstanding. I agree with Jay, include as many top women as possible. Good luck with it. Always nice to have a big event in the neighborhood. I'll have to come sweat it when it happens.

I think if you want to make this an exceptional "pro event" (you can almost hear the can of worms opening!), it needs to be 10 ball. 9 ball has too many issues as a high level tournament.

You should also consider using a racking template (the blasphemy continues!). The goal being to try to get through a tournament without someone throwing a hissy fit about something to do with the rack. Unless you're ready to enforce some player conduct rules. Turning Stone is a good example of a tournament that seems to avoid player drama, and I think that's a reflection of how it's run.

Then just add money and watch the top guys magically appear! If you could fit in something like a banks ring game or a single-elim one pocket event, I think that would boost interest too.

And I agree that inviting some of the top ladies would be cool, but I also think it's only practical in 9 ball format.

Shane and Earl for sure. (Obviously)
Great idea. Good luck. I will be following this thread.
