Is there any interest in legal gambling in pool ?
Can it help the game?
Or are we not a sport.

For those who arent aware....
The casino allowed betting on this particular tournament. Mike Lebron had the longest odds because he was thought of to be, by far, the worst player in the tournament. Buddy was the favorite to win. And as legend has it, all the players pooled their money and had a beard place the bet on Spanish Mike.
Mike won. Hmmmm, I wonder what could have happened there? :idea2:
Since then, and up to this very day, this blatant display of greed and shortsightedness has proven in fact to have ruined the chances of Las Vegas casinos allowing pool to be bet on in their sportsbooks.
But surely that couldn't happen in 2018, are there not rules that stop players betting on their own events?
LOL
There were rules then. The casinos cant stop some anonymous Joe from placing a bet (wink wink).
Well, unless the casinos stop letting pool be bet on in their sportsbooks. There is that solution, so....

Rules are useless without punishment.
Last time I checked, Buddy, Mike and any other players involved were still allowed to play after the incident.
The only way gambling on pool works is if there is one governing body that would actually hold players accountable.

This match was the last time that pool was ever allowed to be bet on legally in gambling establishments.Even if one or both were sandbaging, it didn't ruin the sport. Did it help? Nope, but did not ruin it either.
Ever saw a #1 college pick miss a free throw? Of course you have. Did they do it on purpose, well, maybe, maybe not but basketball is still bet on nonetheless.
Same goes for football, boxing, golf and most all sports.
There is a niche for legal gambling in pool and at some point whether it be now or 50 years from now, someone will get rich and a lot of people will lose a lot which is why it is called gambling.

I guarantee the odds do change depending on the bets. Vegas doesn't like losing money unnecessarily. So if Lebron was 20-1 at the time of the match, he could have been 100-1 or greater before they placed the bet.According to the video Lebron was going for 20-1
If all the players emptied their pockets and put it on Mike they could have a nice pay day.
But it should work like horse racing that the odds change based on were the money goes. If the total betting pool is $50,000 and $10,000 is on Mike that 20-1 should change.
