What does pool need to do to get to this?

Golden Tee World Championships to be held June 9 & 10 will have approved legal betting in Las Vega$. That’s right - gambling on an arcade video game. I can let you know all rules had to be submitted to the Nevada Gambling Commission for approval. Things like this don’t happen just because it is legal. All Boyd properties will be taking action on this. And casinos don’t just take action on events cause they can. They weigh the risks and ROI. They were given A LOT of player data. (I also gave my input to the odds before they were published).

So what does pool need to do:
1) get solid rules and don’t waiver or change the rules in the middle of a tournament to suit your needs
2) make sure players understand the ramifications of not showing up for matches or forfeiting mid match
3) abolish savers
4) get better organized from top to bottom
5) be more open to their fan base and customers
6) .....and about another dozen or so things

Anyways - Come on by if you are in town - at The Orleans Saturday and Sunday June 9th and 10th.
I am the tournament director for this event.

We don’t charge admission. We don’t charge for the stream. We have a lot of fun. Players hug each other when they lose not give flimsy handshakes or start arguments.

Integrity is the short answer but don't get it twisted, if the golden tee guys get together and rob the joint they will never be on the books again too. Let some people start throwing big bets at massive underdogs and they come in.

Can’t happen in the format of the event. You would need 50 players involved.
 
And as an FYI, it’s over $100k in prize money - NO ENTRY FEE - and $20k for first. Man how do they do it without taking money OUT of the prize pool?

I think this is primarily run by Incredible Technologies, which is Golden Tee....

I believe they are a 30-50 million dollar revenue company nowadays. Hence, this is but a sliver of their Marketing budget. They probably have another sponsor or two involved.

Sure is a lot of those Golden Tee games in bars across the country.

I guess they have a similar model as a pool table manufacturer, who I assume also has a lot of marketing cash tied up in tournaments, but not sure.

Guess you missed the part where I said I’m the tourney director.

But yes the prize is funded through previous play and sponsors. Kinda like a pool league — wait, not like a pool league cause they charge extra for championships and also have fees in those events. The APA has a goal of getting 1 million members. I can tell you a million people a year don’t play Golden Tee.

I also have been told from a reliable source that Diamond Tables can’t keep up with the demand for their tables. The pool industry is not short of money. It’s just how they have the customers trained how they use it.
 
First and foremost, pool needs a time machine to go back and undo the Buddy Hall dump, and then we might have some chance of similar betting being taken on pool.

Now, it is MUCH too late to recover. Vegas has a long memory for people stealing from them.

They (GT) makes money every time someone plays GT.

For pool to do this, Pool (en the large:: BCA+WPA+APA+...) would have to take a stipend on every game played and put this stipend into a big pot for all tournaments to draw from.
This would not go over well with the Halls or with the players.

Pool makes money every time a league game is played. And there is hundreds of thousands that go into the development of the game each year for GT. Pool leagues haven’t changed their format in decades, they are about 15 years (or more) behind in the use of technology, where is the investment besides a poster hung in the bathroom to join a league?
 
Golden Tee has also paid out about 30 million in prize money the past 4 years alone. Build it and they will come.
 
Have competent organization on the top who is not afraid to go outside of the box when it comes to getting new viewers and implement rules worth a damn for the pro side of things. It's really simple and it sucks no one wants to do it.

Ok buddy I think I know just a little bit about the game and how to play it.
I’ll bet you the best player in the world can shoot 30 under and never hit the trackball with anything else but his thumbs.

You got it right.Pool also needs to be a game anybody can play and be successful at regardless of talent and it isn't. At the end of the day Pool requires lots of learned ability and lots of time to get there and that doesn't always mean fun.
 
I was an avid Golden Tee player in the early years. I routinely scored 20-25 under.

Hitting it far is just one thing.... wind against you on a par 5 and you want to get to the spot that you already know you can get on the green from sometimes takes some extra oomph to get there.

Real key is knowing the course and the tricks and shortcuts you can get away with. A gap in the tree's for example that is hard to see. Takes time to truly master a particular course.

Just my opinion.

I'd add:
Don't tell outside industries how to conduct their own business. In other words, bend over backwards for your sponsors. :thumbup:
