Navigator vs Predator vs Kamui vs Zan vs G2

I can feel the heat coming... but I have to ask

I am having an LD shaft made and it comes with a tip of my choice. The options are

Navigator
Predator Victory
Kamui
Zan
G2

What would you choose? I had a Kamui black in the past and didn't like it. Kamui and Predator tips is what everyone around here is shooting, I haven't been able to try any other layered tips.

Julian

G2. Just make sure it's the real deal. Great tip.

I've played g2 on several cues. Some of them played very well but some played just ok.

They all looked the same to me. How can you tell if it is the real deal?

Thanks,

Rake

Zan all the way

I liked the G2 Med a lot, but my brand of choice is Zan. I tried the Soft, Hard and Hybrid Max. All of em require little to no maintenance. Less than the G2 Med I had. The G2 med I tried was not the newest generation though (couple of years ago). Hybrid Max is on my current player.

Yeah i read your post.
Get a Triangle.
I understand that you feel passionately about Triangles. I have one on my playing cue right now. I know what they are. But that's besides the point.

Most questions on here aren't open questions, they are about choices. The posters have limitations because one reason or another - whether financial, availability, time, preference... By staying within those limitations you show consideration to the poster and you provide real value. It shows that you can be focused and concise. Otherwise you just like to hear yourself talk, and you don't care whether it's helpful or not. You are useless. A waste of my time. Another post that I have to scroll over to get to those that put though and effort into it

Buy them from a trusted source. Kelly Peterson here at AZB, or Joe Nielsen at Nielsen's Billiards. If Martin here at AZB, aka jazznpool has them, I would trust him as well.

OP:

Even though there not on the list I too vote triangle. There very consistent from tip to tip, very low maintenance for most, easy to install and very cheap.

Triangles are a win/win.

After triangle, to me, a pressed lepro is next in line.

Now to give my opinion on your list:

I like hard tips.

First choice would be Kamui hard.
Very, very close second would be victory hard.

Both get bad reviews from some about glazing but it's not really all that bad unless they are not installed correctly.

Bottom line, every tip on your list is a good tip.

Rake

Please explain how the installation procedure relates to glazing or not glazing afterwards.

Thanks,
Keith

Sorry OP, just looking for information.

I'm not sure why. I liked those that I've tried and they have a sick color. I heard they are consistent.

The layers separated on my Revo. I have another one on a different shaft and I don’t like it at all, feels like I’m playing with a marshmallow on the end.

Wow!
You are taking this tip thing very personal.
what do you do when you really have to make a life decision that really means something?
Its pool cue tip,stop stressing.

there is no correct answer to your question.
Its all subjective.
Pick a tip and try it.
If you dont like it try another.
I have tried probably 12 different tips before I settled on the Triangle.

Not sure why one would limit their options to such a small group; however, from your list, I would start with trying the Zan.
I have installed several including the repeat customers being proficient players.

All these years I've had the experience to play with four tip brands. The first one was Triangle. Then after first Moori tips became available here in Ukraine many years ago I gave them a try and really love them in medium. Back then after winning some tournaments didn't have to pay for them because one of the tournament's sponsors was the main dealer of most billiard accessories here and there was a really good deal on them. So that was the best choice at that time. But afterwards the wind blows the other way, the quality of Moori tips came down so please welcome the Kamui tips which I started to use (also medium) and liked a lot but only brown ones. They played as good as old good Moori's. I tried the Kamui black only once but didn't like it having problems with for example rail cut shots playing with draws&outside english = overcutted.
But then in 2013/14 the dark times came here and there were no good deals on tips anymore( and paying 20 $ for one is kind of you know... So I looked what else I can get for less money but good quality worth them. And yeath like many here mentioned Triangle tip, I totally agree (one of the best tips for less money).
But I gave a try to G2 tips (paid 38 $ for 10 tips...not a bad price). I got 5 mediums and 5 hards. Just last week after terrible miscue had to cut off my Kamui and finally give a try to G2 medium. First thing I've noticed immediately it feels noticeably harder than Kamui (M) and my quess is G2 (S) should feel closer in hardness to Kamui (M). So take G2 (M) if you like Kamui (H). Now I quess I will use my G2 (H) mostly for russian piramid.
If you don't mind on spending 20$ for Kamui tip it is also a great tip but you'll have to choose what are the main priorities for you.
That is mine not so short two cents.

My guess is if you paid $38 for 10 G2 tips, you got fakes. Your description doesn't match my experience at all. I think G2 medium is considerably softer than a Kamui black medium. The softs are close for both. G2 hard is about the same as Kamui medium. I am an authorized installer for G2 and only buy from a legit source. Just FYI.

You may be right but not a big loss of money. Well then I'll better use them as noname tips and I'll see how they will perform over time and will they have any issues with layers being unglued and so on.
So then my choice would be Kamui (M original) if you can afford it and Triangle if you wanna shoot some great pool for minimum amount of money.
I have a real funny example of what is really more important... I have a talented student I coached from his start at the age of 10 yo. He became several times absolute champion in our national championships in junior division when he was 16 and 17 years old and till the age of 19 he added three golds in men division in national championships. Then as he was studying at the University and already started to work when he had free time the priorities had changed and he didn't have practice at all for a year. When the time came for Ukranian national championships we have as usual in December I invited him to participate if he missed the game. He agreed and he managed to get three medals, one of them was gold in 10-ball where he defeated our best player Artyom Koshovyi in the final and that was the second time in his career. The thing about our nationals is we have all four disciplines coming one after another in 5 to 6 days so you can get better shape during competition. Those nationals he played with his Mezz WX700 and hardly used and already really thin Kamui tip.
So now the funny side of the story. The next year when December comes for the nationals I asked him the same question and if he wants to kick some asses... The week before nationals started I invited him just to play a little and there were troubles with his cue tip glazing and miscueing therefore. So the decision was obvious the question I've asked him what tip to install. After I told him how much Kamui cost in grivna nowadays (till the 2014 it cost 160 grv but afterwards the price raised a little...to 500). So it was an easy decision I've installed the Triangle tip and he got three golds and one bronze out of four...
He played really cool and some players looking at him asked why to practice:grin:
The year after our best player Artyom Koshovyi went to WC in Qatar and that year he also didn't have much practice and just played one big tournament in Stambul where he finished second after Niels Feijen. He finished 9th at WC winning vs many really big names. He was stopped in 1/8 by Jason Shaw comeback 10-11 being ahead 9:2.
Artyom is a friend of mine he always played with Moori first and Kamui brown (M) afterwards. One more our young star and european champion in 8-ball 2016 Vitaliy Patsura always played and plays with Kamui brown (M). Sorry for the long story).
In your case so as the price is not a major factor to decide I would narrow the choice to three:
-Kamui
-Zan
-G2
and consider mostly the hardness you like. I quess all three are very good tips.
