Good players using TAD cues?

You think maybe it's that Gina with the gold coin? You think it's a Bushka?

Some great minds have opined on this one. John Showman was pretty sure it's a Tad. Sure looks like it, with white rings surrounding the buttsleeve. George didn't do that. That leaves Ernie. And he's the only one who could actually confirm what it is, as he's the only one who's still alive.

Could be an early Gina, but more likely a Bushka (they were around back then and available). Ernie and Tad were just getting started back then.

I don't believe TAD was making cues of this design in 1965. The following cue is a TAD, but I believe it was made later in the 70's-80's, if I find a better picture I'll post it.

Morro in his prime was always rocking a Tad merry widow, BEM. He had several shafts for it, used to see him change shafts in the middle of a run out! "Arriba! we play now!"

Lassiter's cue?... had to be a Bushka.

If anyone is interested, I have U.J. Pucketts merry widow birdseye Tad and Fellini case. Got out moved on Mosconis, Cranes, Lassiters, and other old legends hardware, but I moved faster than Deano to capture this piece.

To be honest Jay, the first time I saw the photo, I thought it was a Bushka too. Then I posted it, and some well-informed said Tad, so I wasn't sure.

Now to rattle the minds further, here's the picture again, with another picture, I think the same cue, with a more clear image of the buttsleeve. On the second, I see what looks like it could be the mythical coin in the buttplate. As the myth goes, that was one of Ernie's cues. Also, I haven't seen Bushkas with white (presumably acrylic white rings) above and below the buttsleeve, as this cue has. Maybe some more are are out there.

Even on the first picture, I see a little dark spot on the buttplate, (on the right) which could be the coin. That would make it possibly the Gina, rather than either Tad or Bushka.

That easy a call, a guarantee? Well, I don't know. I do know that it was either made by George, Tad, or Ernie. And only Ernie may have the memory to know this cue.

I saw the cue up close in 1982 in Atlantic City. To be honest, I can't say that it was definitely a Bushka or Tad. But that dark spot on the buttsleeve is interesting as to identity.

Regarding timeframe, don't assume either of these was taken in 1965. It's just part of an article, more about the woman he was seeing.

I've never hit with a Tad. I was told they're balanced more like the old Meucci Originals and early D-series McD's, which on my cues are 17.25" - 18.25".
Some newer cues I've had including Andy Gilbert, Josey, Schon, and Rick Howard have all been 19"+.
Anyone know how Tad or Fred preferred the balance point?

I had a D-8 back in the late 80's. It seemed a little light in the nose for my liking, especially on over the rail/open bridge shots. I ended up selling it and got a Tim Scruggs sneaky which I played with for about 10 years.
Now I have a Schon and don't plan on playing with anything else.

It's funny, I have spent over 100k on cues in the last 4 years. Everything from searings, herceks, bushkas to szams. Never owned a tad, not my style.

What do I play with everyday? A Gina, of course!

Dave Knottingham played with a Tad as well for about 20 years.

I played with a Tad full time for 7 years, I still have that cue. Just a plain Jane like King Kongs.

On a sidenote, at my local hall alone, there are at least four regulars who play with a Tad and two of them are C players at best!

Several years ago I watched Uchigaki play Ko Pin Yi on the TV table at the US Open in VA.

Big Ko shot at a .950 TPA and still lost hill-hill to Kenichi (!), who was all dressed up, button down shirt, vest and all.

I’ll never forget watching him with that fancy TAD run out that last rack for the win.
