How about a discussion or top 5 list of the guys that were in that level just below the very best ?

The place you speak of is a lonely place. There is IMO, a much bigger gap between the best and the rest.

There are lots of players I could name that most would "think" are just under the elite. In reality though, they are just above the average shortstop but not just under the elite.

As I said, the elite are a lonely few.
