Was watching a very slow match at the time.

Hell, I enjoy the pointing. I view it as free lessons on how to play shape. See the point, see how they hit the cueball...watch it's path after the shot.

You need more practice!!
You will never true dead stroke with that nonsense.
I pity those players.
ESPECIALLY some advanced one's still playing scared.
Alex the Lion does pretty good every now and then with that 'pointing thing' that annoys you..??
I want half his action when you play him.

It's a way to dial in the direction and speed of the cueball, and play for precise position. Akin to visualizing the shot beforehand. It's as crucial a part of the pre-shot routine for some players as sliding the shaft through your fingers or aiming during a warm-up stroke.

Why does that matter?

To many good and great players do it for it to only be a show. Buddy Hall said that it can help settle the nerves...,

So if you play as good as Buddy send me your video or start pointing!

Instead of pointing I like to use powder to mark the spot where I wanted the cue ball to land.

I was just thinking of all the jackass moves I see tools do in pool rooms. Cue pointing don't even crack the top 50.

What's it like being in the top 5 on Fargo Rate?
