FYI, I just uploaded a new YouTube video demonstrating the top 10 shot types that every pool player must know and master (all in 10 minutes). Here it is:

NV J.10 - Top 10 Pool Shots Every Player Must Know!!!

Here's the list of shot categories covered in the video:
1. Accurate/consistent/reliable/controlled stun/follow/draw
2. English shots
3. Rail cut shots
4. Throw shots
5. Drag shots
6. Carom/kiss shots
7. Kick shots
8. Bank shots
9. Jump shots
10. Massé shots

As with the BU Playing Ability Exams, all of the shots in this video are useful to practice as a playing ability test (1 point for each shot) or or as a pool workout. Maybe I'll use this collection of shots to create BU Exam III - Pool Workout Test (with a diagram for every shot). What do you think?

Enjoy,
Dave

I think that’s a fantastic idea, Dave.

Thank you for sharing and incessantly promoting the games, sir!

How do you like your Revo, Dr Dave? Have you done any testing with it against other LD shafts?

How do you like your Revo, Dr Dave?
I like it a lot because it:
- is smooth
- stays clean
- is easy to clean
- doesn't scratch or nick
- should stay straight forever
- has the amount of CB deflection (squirt) I like in a cue

Have you done any testing with it against other LD shafts?
The only testing I did was a comparison with my previous shaft (Predator Z-2). Luckily the Revo (12.4) has the same CB deflection as the Z-2, so I didn't need to adjust how I aim shots with sidespin when I changed. I liked that a lot!

Dave

In this video, for a change, I decided to do more shooting and less explaining and illustration than normal to see how people would respond. What do you guys think about this format.

Thanks,
Dave

What do others think about the suitability of this collection of shots as a playing-ability test or as a pool workout?

Thanks,

A good video.

That's a very good video and worthy of study and work. :thumbup2:
(however the usual pool player, being closed minded and lazy as most are) will not do the work required for it to be a solid workout for his/her game)
You did great in putting it together.

Wow, a whole lot of valuable shots and info compressed in to a 10 minute video. Dr Dave, you have made tremendous contributions to the pool community for many years, and you continue to. I think many of us here would agree that you are certainly well deserving of induction in to the BCA Hall of Fame, and hopefully you will very soon be getting that recognition - Thanks!

 Awesome ... Thank you!

Pool has a friend in you. I remember many years ago when
I found your website in a google search. What a revelation!

I remember thinking to myself, what if every hobby had a dr. Dave?

The amount of time you and Bob, I’m sure many others, put in must be staggering.

I, for one, am truly grateful.

Love your scientific approach in all you do.

Keep up the good work!

Funny you should mention that, because before I decided to dedicate myself to pool, I almost did the same thing for bowling instead. I've always been an avid bowler and have been in a bowling league every year since I was about 6. In the late 1990s, I did some bowling physics analyses, high-speed video, and simulation, and I approached the bowling governing body (ABC at the time, USBC now) with a big research proposal. They seemed interested in funding it a the time, but they had some management changes when they moved their facilities, and my proposal was eventually denied. In retrospect, I'm glad it was denied because it allowed me to take the "billiards fork in the road", which I have enjoyed immensely.

The amount of time you and Bob, I’m sure many others, put in must be staggering.
The DVD projects with Tom Ross, Randy Russel, and mostly Bob Jewett did take a lot of time and effort, but I enjoyed every minute of it.

I, for one, am truly grateful.

Thank you and others for the positive feedback and kind support. It feels good to know people appreciate my work.

Best regards to all,
Dave

I think this stuff is great. The frozen to rail cut shots still get me on occasion even though I’ve been playing forever lol. As far as less talk more pool I think it’s a delicate balance because it’s important to give thorough explanations

Even with complete knowledge, you still need to be able to execute.

As far as less talk more pool I think it’s a delicate balance because it’s important to give thorough explanations
I've been accused of "over analyzing" things and being "too technical" at times. That's why I wanted to try a slightly different approach to see how people respond. Maybe a mix of styles is a good approach going forward.

Thanks for the feedback,
Dave

It seems like people like it better when I shoot more and explain/illustrate less.

Regards,
Dave

I actually see this, along with many of your other videos as being very balanced. The contact points on the cue ball is shown, the action taken with the cue is explained and the audio\visual element is clearly defined.

You can never have too much analysis, if the goal is to improve. And your analysis is second to none.
