new "Top 10 Pool Shots Every Player Must Know!!!" video

I edited my post before with the link to the inside english 4 rail position shot, if you didn't know which one I meant.
Thanks. That is a good shot. I will definitely add it to the list.

Please let me know if you or others think of any other cool shots.

My latest draft is below, with additions and deletions listed at the bottom.

Thanks again,
Dave

Obstacle ball 6" from pocket
8 ball about 6" or 8" behind and cue ball about the same behind the 8 ball all in a straight line.

Object ball jumps completely over obstacle ball.
That’s a little too tough for what I have in mind, but thank you for suggesting it.

Here’s a video:

HSV B.4 - object ball jump shot

It came up in league last night.
Obstacle ball 6" from pocket
8 ball about 6" or 8" behind and cue ball about the same behind the 8 ball all in a straight line.
Did you attempt it? If so, how did it go.

Catch you later,
Dave

After trying out all of the shots, along with others, and discussing many of the shots with several people, I've settled on the final draft below. I'll probably try to work on the diagrams and video demos this coming week. I got rid of the shots that were too much like "trick" or "artistic" shots, keeping only stuff realistically useful (but still challenging and requiring skill) in real game situations.

Thanks to everybody for the feedback and suggestions!

This is a great video! I think I might be in the minority but I would have liked more explanation on how to use the banking systems and some of the more advanced English usage.

Banking has always been a weakness in my game and i am trying to learn some of the systems now but most of the videos I've seen online only show how to use them from perfect situations that never come up in real life so its hard to translate into usable teaching.

Do you have any videos that go into the premise and show imperfect examples of how the system can be adjusted to make shots? And also some good videos that go into advanced english?

Hi Dr Dave, I just had an idea that might help your participation.... maybe have other forum members demonstrate some of the shots.

Everything you ask for is in the DVDs mentioned at the end of the Top 10 Shots video. I also have a lot of resources (including numerous YouTube video) available online here:

bank and kick shot aiming systems resource page

english and position control resource pages

If you find the resource pages overwhelming, you might prefer the guided learning experience of my instructional videos (available as DVDs or via stream or download).

The instructional videos that cover all of the banking stuff in detail are: HAPS-III, VEPS-IV, and VEPP-IV (recommended in this order), and the ones that cover english and position play in detail are: HAPS-I, VEPS-II, VEPP-II, and VENT-III (recommended in this order). For more info, see:

Hi Dr Dave, I just had an idea that might help your participation.... maybe have other forum members demonstrate some of the shots.
Once I have the BU Exam III document and scoresheet created, I am hoping many forum members will demonstrate the shots (by filming themselves taking the exam, in part or in full). I also hope to use the new exam in the next BU Exam Challenge, where we offer money for top scores (like with the recent $4000 Exam I Challenge). At that point, we should get some top players demonstrating the shots (I hope).

Great idea,
Dave

Thanks so much Dave.. And great job on all the work you're doing to get this information out there. I wish I knew of this stuff when I was first learning how to play.

You're welcome ... and thank you. I also wish I knew all that I know now before I started to play (and even before I wrote my book), but the learning journey is part of the fun.

Dave

FYI, I finally finished preparing all of the documents and video demonstration for the new BU Exam III. For more info, see the new thread:

25 Advanced Game-Winning Pool Shots – BU Exam III

Please post anything about the new Exam and video in the new thread. This thread already includes too many topics.

Thanks,
Dave
